Sounds like he needs to be bumped to higher level classes because he is bored as frick in those classes. Put him somewhere that will challenge him.

Maybe the problem is with the discipline your child is receiving. Either at school or home or both. Maybe try a different technique.

No there are people who do need medication. But I guarantee over 50% of people who are diagnosed with ADD/ ADHD are truly not. My daughter got diagnosed with ADHD at 8 years old, I agreed and put her on medication because the teachers were shoving it down my throat. After about 3 weeks of her taking the medication, I got compliments on how she is changing for the better, but all the things that were changing were the things that made her who she was. I instantly felt horrible. I was changing my straight A, TAG student ( both academic and talented (drawing), because she is social, likes to give hugs, and has an imagination and personality. So I took her off, and magically at 12 years old, while she still is everything I said, she has learned on her own to not be compulsive. But what I find funny is, she probably is ADD idk, seems normal to me. She is sanctioned 504, but can't get the benefits that other 504 students get because she doesn't take medication???? Not that I want her to, but you would think schools would help the students more when they are trying to cope and learn without medication, than the ones who take medication.

Yeah, don't give ADD medicine to girls who like to hug people. My son isn't on Adderall because he like to hug people.

He can barely complete a sentence without medication. Don't get me started on the school systems though.

My sons teacher said he’s having trouble keeping his attention in class. He’ll forget to sign his name to each page or sometimes skips a math problem or two on tests. He makes all A’s but often talks to others during class so his conduct grade suffers. His teacher said he’s very bright and this isn’t a red flag yet, but more like a yellow. Not sure what to do at this point, but looking at maybe having him see a professional. Anyone else have issues like this with their child? The teacher doesn’t think it’s ADD but wants us to watch him closely

Take him to a child phycologist and get him tested, don't just go to his regular doctor who will give either you (his parents) or him some questions to answer and then give him a prescription.

There will be a lot of opinions on here, but I was in 6th grade when I went to a child phycologist. From 1st-3rd grade I was in "accelerated" classes. In 3rd grade my grades started dropping because I wouldn't answer questions on the test or just make really careless mistakes so I was put in "regular" classes. In regular classes, I was told I could move up a grade. After my 5th grade year, after a teacher recommending it to my parents, I went see a child phycologist.

After going through some testing, etc I was diagnosed with ADHD. At the time, I started taking ritalin, my grades got much better, but I didn't like the way it made me while on it so I stopped taking it and my grades struggled.. And it wasn't until college, when I decided I needed to take it in order for me to perform successfully. So keep that in mind, if he is indeed ADD/ADHD, make sure he stays on his meds throughout grade school.

Your kid makes all As, isn't shy, likes talking to people, and is also 8 years old and occasionally forgets stupid repetitive nonsense tasks assigned by teachers like writing his name on every page?

Sounds like he's bright and not challenged enough because school is built to cater to the average and pander to the lowest common denominator.

I'll tell you how I feel about school. it's a waste of time. Bunch of people runnin' around bumpin' into each other, got a guy up front says, '2 + 2,' and the people in the back say, '4.' Then the bell rings and they give you a carton of milk and a piece of paper that says you can go take a dump or somethin'. I mean, it's not a place for smart people. I know that's not a popular opinion, but that's my two cents on the issue.

You have 2 options:

1. Continue to parent him like normal and he'll grow up to be a normal kid.

2. Being your 8 year old to a doctor because he has too much energy to sit in a classroom all day and they'll jam pills down his throat and frick his brain development and personality into the drain.

Up to you
