This week in 1943, Lieutenant junior grade John Kennedy and the crew of Patrol Torpedo boat 109 were presumed dead after their ship was cut in two by a Japanese destroyer in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.

After surviving several days with limited food and water, and hiding from nearby Japanese, 12 of the 14 members of PT 109 were rescued. Two died in the collision.

JFK received the Navy and Marine Corps medal for heroism and the Purple Heart.

His older brother, Joe Kennedy, Jr., was the one originally groomed to be president. He had been an antisubmarine pilot and transferred to a secret project in England developing a system for remotely controlled flying bombs. They took worn out B17's and B24's and loaded them with explosives. The pilot would take off, reach cruising altitude, point it in the general direction of the target, and bail out, whereupon another plane would guide it to the target by radio. Not surprisingly, several pilots were killed in this endeavor, including Kennedy, when his plane exploded in midair. The project never achieved any notable successes.

Kennedy should have been court-martial but because of daddy was awarded. Dude was idleing his boat in a war zone and was said to be drunk

If you still enjoy reading WW2 books, read Herman Wouk's Winds of War & War and Remembrance. They're fiction but rides a realistic timeline. Remembrance is a 1,000 page book and it was worth every minute it took to read it.

This is so wrong geauxtigers. Read the wiki or any legit source.

Nobody pilots a boat, leads his men in hostile waters at 2:00 am, then swims for miles towing His most injured man behind him while drunk

His crewmates had nothing but praise for his actions. In B4, “His daddy paid them to stay quiet”

The Medical Ordeals of JFK

Other than JFK's back problems, I had no idea that he had so many medical issues throughout his life.
