Science is weird.
Those were roads they cut to the test site. This was in the middle of literally nowhere. There were no roads to the site where the detonation was to take place so they had to cut out rudimentary dirt roads to where they wanted to test the bomb.
They built a tower at what was to be ground zero so they could hoist the bomb into the air for the test.

Looks like roads to me. It was in the middle of a desert so they had to take all the equipment to build the tower out there by trucks. I could be wrong but that is what it looks like to me.
