At times. There's been plenty of cases of people surviving until they hit though.

The Lion Air crash was due to faulty maintenance and crew training. The cause of this crash is yet undetermined.
The 400+ Max aircraft currently flying are not having any unusual issues. Grounding 400 aircraft is a little premature at this moment.

Plenty?
Absolutely. Unless the plane is ripped apart at a high altitude, there's a really good chance of survival.

A plane crash is probably my number one irrational fear
Same here. I have flown many times, and this fear doesnt stop me fron flying at all. But every flight I have to say many prayers, and every single bit of turbulence or any bump I feel my chest start beating outside my chest. I really wish I could get over that. I don't do it on purpose...

Get back to me when it happens on a US-flagged carrier

And Ethiopian airlines has one of the best fleets and pilots.
Ignorant question here, but do they hire pilots from other countries mostly? I’ve never heard of Ethiopian Air Force being outstanding?
I’m guessing they do flights to somewhere like London and most of their pilots are British? Like I know a guy that flies for Korean air and lives in Seattle.

You been getting a lot of calls from people free falling to their deaths lately?
How the frick would anyone know when someone passes out or if they are conscious before slamming into the ground in a massive collision with fire burning the plane up....
Pretty sure science/biology says they pass out

Ethiopian Airlines is better than a lot of US carriers.

Most of their pilots are Ethiopian nationals. It was an Ethiopian pilot, Captain Leul Abate, who put his plane down in the Indian Ocean. The only partially successful ditching of a wide body in history. You've most likely seen the video of it happening

CVRs have recorded plenty of incidents when this didn't happen.
Alaska Airlines Flight 261 is a good example. They struggled with that plane for a long time.

Why does this matter? It’s a sad story to all of us no matter the background of the dead.

But it's over quickly. Unlike falling from 30,000 feet.

Fixed wing aircraft don't "fall out of the sky" at 33k feet without a bunch of other bad shite going on.
It's entirely feasible you would land safely even if you completely lost power and never got it back.
Hell, pilots put the engines on idle on your descent to land and glide.
One flight recently the auxiliary engine that powers the cabin failed, so when the pilots cut the main engines down on approach, you heard nothing but air. It was freaky.

We flew through Addis pretty much this time last year on their 787 and 777 on the way to Cape Town. Really enjoyed the experience.
Very curious if this is a 737max issue or not.

Did not think the APU's were operational during flight.

Damn. I just flew on a 737 max last week.
It’s crazy that in such a remote part of the world on a random flight that 8 Americans were on board. Guessing it had to do with charity/church mission type stuff.

Is there a rational reason to avoid the Max8 at this point?
