ETA: A lot of the women had to take over the factory jobs left behind from the men. Hard working manual labor. And the ones who didn't do that worked in the factories where they made all the tanks, ammo, planes etc. Factories who made, say tractor parts, stopped making those parts and would make jeeps for military for example. There will always be the select few but as a whole I don't think so. And the best part about it is you never heard them complain that their lives were up ended. They did what they had to do and when it was over went on with their lives.

This oversimplified and cliched statement that the greatest generation is better than all of us is tiring.

Agreed. Not to make lite of what they had to deal with, but I think if we were called to make a similar sacrifice we would respond in kind.

Do you actually think that this bunch of 17-25 year olds could do what they did? Fool if you do. Isolated individuals yes, but the vast majority of are scarred to death of somone just disagreeing with them. Safe spaces.

During WWII it was the norm to go enlist, we've all heard of the 15 and 16 year olds lying about their age to enlist. Hell, a 16 year old won the medal of honor on Iwo Jima. If you didn't sign up to do something for the war effort you were a minority.

This kind of event isn't exclusive to WWII. It happened in virtually every conflict before WWII. Willie Johnston was 11 years old when he won the Medal of Honor for his deeds in the Seven Days' Battle during the Civil War.

We should stop and think also about "why" we go to war now as opposed to in the WW2 days. In the WW2 days, virtually everyone thought of the Nazis as the great evil.

These days partly because we allow the media such ready access into the military and also because of "why" we go to war, you have a pretty large contingent of people who suggest "we" are the bad guy.
