Did your bil not notice the dog limping when he picked him up and took him to your mil? If your mil noticed it seems like he would've noticed while he saw it at the breeders place

And yes, HD is screened for - any decent breeder can provide you with OFA approval of the hips/elbows and CERF approval of the eyes of both parent dogs.

I had the surgery on my pound puppy lab. She runs like a greyhound. My vet said that he has done a double hip dog that even got back to hunting.

Stop buying dogs inbred for a profit and go get a dog from a rescue. They're usually healthier anyway.

People on this board are obsessed with pure bread dogs. Sorry to hear about the hip issues though, OP

minerals bro

poor fidos' mom did not have enuf minerals in diet, hence the birth defect

ever notice how pets get people diseases? it's mineral deficiency

I'll bet you are short too...we all are, unless we supplement...and surgery is the only option or put him down.

sorry your doggy is all f'd up...

Does anyone here have any suggestions on what recourse, if any, there is in this situation?

all states have rules on the sale of dogs and issues, better find out what the time limits are and who needs to be contacted etc b4 time runs out.

pretty sure it is limited to just the purchase price and the medical bills

I bought a bloodhound pup from a reputable breeder back in the nineties, at 4 months he had a mange breakout and at 6 months he was dead. come to find out that every pup in the litter died from it

Breeder refunded everyone's money who asked and spayed the mother
Sucks but it happens and you cannot always assume the breeder knew about it. Every dog I've owned after that has been a rescue

Sorry agent Schrader but it's more complex than that. Nutrition may play some role but it's obvious that genetics is a major player

Take the Millennial route. Set up a Gofundme acct and send a link to all the animal rights people on your FB. Say it costs 4/5 times actual cost. Save dog and Profit.
