I can't speak for your neighbor however I know my wife always prefers an 8 over a 6, regardless of the product.

What was the solution to the driveway? Did they sell or did you build alongside your parents driveway?

Family in my parents neighborhood have an 8 foot fence. They're the only ones. And they painted it, and their mailbox, puke green.

Looks absolutely horrible.

As much as people bitch about HOAs on here... here's your counterpoint.

At my previous house I wanted an 8' fence and wife wanted a 6' fence, so we settled on a 7' fence. Shortly thereafter, the neighbor extended a deck that felt more like a viewing platform into our backyard. Wife then admitted we should have gotten an 8' fence.
Get an 8' fence.

Want privacy and don’t have much of a fence right now. Is the message behind building an 8’ fence considered a “frick you, go frick yourself” kind of thing or is it no different from a 6’ fence?

Can I ask how far are you from your neighbors and the surrounding area?

Again, go back and read that thread again. I don’t have landlocked property!

whatever, is this the same neighbor that wont sell you a strip of land so you can build a driveway to your landlocked piece of property?

Depends on the size of your property. The fence is near pointless of the neighbors are far enough away to see over it. My neighbors have a 6 foot fence and I can see clean over it from my rear patio.

I’ve planted tall shrubs and Leyland Cypress to form a privacy barrier

What you do is put a fence this high, just on one side of your yard

8 ft fences blow over easier in storms, more surface area for the wind to catch. You'll need deeper beefier footings.

No, it's not the same neighbor. As for the possible landlocked property, we were able to convince the family member to allow us to share the driveway and draw up a legal easement using their driveway to access what will eventually be our property. That way we won't have any shite from a future owner of their home if the other siblings choose to sell that when the parents pass away. That issue looks to be resolved but we won't start building for another few years.

After they legalized them here, they started going up everywhere. I had already put one up and figured I'd deal with it IF anyone complained.

Add a Trump cutout peeking over the fence (like Wilson from Home Improvement)

I think this thread helped convince me to build an 8' fence.
