The first group of Afghan refugees, nearly 37,000 people who fled during the final days of the chaotic U.S. withdrawal last month, are set to be resettled across the United States.

Louisiana is slated to welcome 59, according to U.S. officials.

I'm sure any of the 50 states is preferable to Afghanistan at the moment.

Why would a bunch of desert-dwelling Muslims want to live in a mosquito-infested swamp full of drunk catholics?

The Funroe/Bawcomville MSA would be paradise compared to what they left.

It's a lot of high altitude desert, but desert nonetheless. It's mountainous, especially the areas near the Pakistani border, but it's still very arid. It's a completely different world from Louisiana with it's sealevel flat marshy land.
