I have a buddy who said he made a little over $400 during Mardi Gras. I thought he said he only drove on the weekends.

at least that's what I remember him saying when he first started.

I didn't bother asking him how much of that he used on gas. Or how many hours he ended up driving each night.

I used to do this, but don't any more, with their fares going down, it's not even worth the small sum of extra money I get for doing it a few hours every weekend...

See, I'm reading this more and more. If the service turns to crap, people will quit using it. It's pretty simple how that works out.
In N.O. though, Uber still has a long ways to sink to get down to the shitty taxi levels though.

he didn't mention that. He mainly just talked about the random conversations he had with people.

that guy is a talker though man. His communication skills are better than anyone else I know.

I think its mainly due to the fact he asks so many questions and never really talks about himself.

he's been called a people pleaser by many over the years. So when he first told me he was going to drive I figured he might do well with tips from time to time.

unless the person he drove just wasn't even half way nice

edit: he said he isn't suppose to take tips but he has before.

That's not surprising being a chauffeur is never anyone's dream job.

Bad life choices? So every single person who is underemployed made bad life choices? I wish the world were that fair.

Sadly, it's closer to 71%. 71% are unhappy and actively disengaged at work.

Drivers signed on a year ago get 80%. More recently it's 75%. I know 3 who do it 2 nights a week and love it.

It's a real shame that these people are forced to do this, and will be killed if they try and quit.

I wouldn't want a bunch of gross strangers riding around in my car either.

So Uber is better than average.

I do it a mainly on weekends, got a referral code from a friend and didn't mind helping him out. I have to drive 30 or 40 trips in order for both him and me to get paid. Here are my thoughts on my 15 or so rides that I have done in the Bay Area.
For me it's not really worth it to drive when it's not on surge pricing due to fuel costs, time, and vehicle wear and tear. I drive an suv, so city driving eats up the money I make in gas. Secondly, often the person requesting the ride is far away, so there's that. If I can hit a surge pricing that starts close to the house and sends my into San Francisco I can make a good chunk of change and drive home and call it a night. Also, never drive around between rides, just park and chill. The people that I have driven have all been really cool, maybe I've just been lucky.
After my 30 or so rides, I will probably quit, having made my friend some money, and having made myself a little bit also.
