Lost over 1,300 feet of elevation due to the eruption or about 30 percent of its height above the surrounding area.

I've seen pictures in eastern Washington that looked like a light snow had fallen after the eruption.

I've hiked some of that mountain but not to the summit. My uncle had a hot tub and his deck had a magnificent view of it. He let me bring girls over when I spent summers in WA. Good times.

We have two fresh water sources very close and Light duty purifying equipment. Would have to ration for the first week most likely until the food rotary lift support comes in. Fortunately both Shelton and Olympia would be able to take in heavy lift rotary birds. Olympia probably won’t be able to take C17’s, but Chinooks. Shelton is C-130 capable. Lastly, with Olympia being the capital city we’re lucky.

Gotcha. I spent maybe 7-8 months total in that area but further north towards Bellingham. It's a beautiful part of the country where I'd live in a heartbeat. Maybe not the Seattle metro (too expensive) but whatever floats your boat. My wife, not so much unfortunately.

In one of the links where pics were put together to form a motion sequence, you can see the side of the mountain liquify. Then, the explosion.

My family loaded up and drove to watch the mountain erupt once we learned what was happening. Got to Chehalis and hung out all day. Spectacular. Second place behind the total solar eclipse when it comes to witnessing awe inspiring natural events.
We were west of the mountain so we didn't get any ash on that eruption, but we got some about 2 weeks later and then again about 2 weeks after that. Still have some saved on my mantle.
After the big one on May 18th, they closed I-5 for a couple of days and re-routed traffic onto Hwy 101. My family had a restaurant/motel on Hwy 101 and it was the biggest 3 days that we had in 70 years of ownership. Literally ran out of food.
One of the most vivid memories of my childhood and I revisit the mountain every year. It is a MUST see for anyone that visits this area of the country.
