making it difficult for shelters all over the place. One here in Missouri had to shut down because they couldn't keep up with the amount of dogs they had to take in

I'm not really understanding this. So a shelter which is under nor legal obligation to take in every dog closed its doors because it could not take in more dogs, had too many dogs, and presumably was unable to adopt out said plethora of dogs?

Was this at the same time that there was a .22LR shortage? Because that, I could understand.

This is just horseshite.

I bet you can just look at and predict which dogs have a chance in hell in being adopted.

Shoot the ugly, mangy, old, mean and less desirable and you probably save a ton, and can provide more advertising and spend more on placement of the ones that are marketable.

Instead, we just shut it down.

Our two labs got out last saturday and disappeared. Turned out some well meaning rescue lady rescued them right out of our neighborhood and across the county. We were glad to get them back yesterday. However, in going to look at the local county shelter what we saw was that almost all the dogs there were pit bull mixes or pitbulls. Virtually any other kind of dog had been taken by "rescue groups".

None of those pitbull dogs is going to get adopted more than likely and all will wind up dead by end of week. Sad really.

As much as pitbulls are hated, it's sad that these animals were brought into this world only to be raised by shite for brain thugs/people who never gave the animal an ounce of love or attention.

I've never understood people who think this. I'm of the opinion that a good owner can help make them not violent, but they are, by nature, an aggressive breed

Already saved one from the Jefferson Parish shelter. I'm glad I did it.

I worked at a dog daycare as a part time job a while ago. I found that the pit bulls were always really kind and even gentle towards people / employees... but they were always getting in fights with other dogs way more than any other type of breed.

Yep. The biggest concern with raising them is animal aggression. Heavy socialization is very important.

Yes, as someone who now has one because my SO brought him into the relationship when he moved in...He is definitely Pit-Mix. Very shy, loves us tremendously. Doesn't like children. I am not quite sure how he was handled as a young pup. But he is a good dog to US. I do not let him near kids or other dogs, ever. He looks like mostly a 25/25/25/25 Pit, hound, boxer, mutt mix, but his nervousness does not translate well to the outside world. I respect that because he was adopted from a possibly bad world. We give him love and he gives it back. I am aware enough to know what situations are not meant for him.

The dogs being put down, that really sucks. Because stupid people train willing animals to be....animals, not pets.

frick you OP. Those dogs are always raised by human trash. They're normally abused, often taught to fight, and rarely taken care of correctly. Unfortunately it's near impossible and very dangerous to try to take one of those dogs that's already been ruined and try to make them into decent house pets

We have a group of people in SLP that unfortunately love dog fighting and the associated trash lifestyle. Pet owners have to be vigilant because said trash will steal a loose dog to be torn up by their Pitts. Would like to put them in the shelters and gas them instead.
