Why am I still paying $3 per gal? (ETMLIA5)

Where are you at? I paid ~$4.50/gal last time I filled up here in St. Maarten and that is with the EU cap and trade ( anyone who is dumb enough to not see that has nothing to do with reducing CO2 and the only purpose of cap and trade is wealth redistubution into the pockets of corrupt socialist politicans) fees and shipping costs added in. It was ~$7.50 - $8.00 last september before the price collapse.

Exactly. Russia is funding the Ukrainian situation, Saudi Arabia is funding ISIS, and Iran is funding all kinds of terrorist. They can all go bankrupt for all I care. I just hope Louisiana under Vitter is smart enough to redo our budget to reflect new oil prices.

There's still a pretty big backlog on completions around the US from what I know (I'm not an engineer) so I would be interested to know how many domestic producers are truly comfortable producing at $32 oil like the article says

Still a lot of activity offshore. Operators are taking advantage of discounted contracts and poking some holes in the ground. They'll turn on the taps when the price is right though.

. “break-even” cost necessary to sustain domestic oil production is now around $32 per barrel

I read an article recently that they've developed a waterless fracking methold, which will open up Saudi and other middle eastern areas to fracking.

states like Jorja for example are using this oppurtunity of somewhat consistently available supply to raise state gas taxes..

never let a NON-crisis go to waste when you can use it to raise taxes..

It has "crisis" in the wording so even if prices are falling, pump prices will rise.

I hate when people try to just name a break even price. It varies so greatly depending on so many things like geographic region, geologic formation, drilling methods, company structure, etc.

Not to mention logistics of actually bringing in the rig, getting manpower to site, housing them etc etc etc.

I thought that Emma Russell gave the Russians cold fusion as an energy source. This shouldn't even be an issue to them anymore.

Even if producers are more efficient and the break even point is $32/barrel things are still in bad shape. The rig count in the Permian is down 50-60% since January excel and pdf data, that is a lot of lost jobs. And most of the contractors on the drilling and services end have taken reduced contracts so pay has been reduced for all of their employees. The oil field service company yards are full of hundreds of water trucks/tanks sitting there collecting dust.

It looks like the rig count in LA has only dropped 25% since January, I guess you guys are faring better than most.

Serious question -

If oil is that important to countries like Russia and Iran (among others) and the US is making moves to pretty much strip away their economy, would they be likely to attempt to launch an offensive against the US to recoop their business?

You're basically looking at the plot to Red Storm Rising there.
Not to say the Russians have the balls to do it, though.
