This prompted me to schedule a doctors appointment to get some bloodwork. I am scared to death that I have cirrhosis as I’ve been a 40-45 drinks a week drinker for the past 8 years. This has been a huge wake up call for me to get sober. To add injury to insult, I also recently lost my job. Drinking has never caused me any issues with work though.

How high were your liver enzymes?

At 28, unless you have liver issues, if you stop now youre probably fine. Also you drank beer which is also better than slipping into the vodka or whiskey etc.

I doubt it is cirrhosis. I know a lot of people who drink more than a twelve pack every single day, some more than that. Some have been doing this for 30-50 years and not one of them has or had cirrhosis. On the other hand, I am 50 and have had 7 friends at a minimum who have died between the ages of 30-45 because of drinking. All of them drank whiskey or vodka.

I don’t think think this can even be argued, you have to be fat AF if you are drinking 6 cokes a day

The difference in calories between a "normal" 12oz beer and a 12oz Coke is negligible.

What state or planet do you live in/on where people crush 40 light beers a week??

Louisiana. I know a lot of people who have 2-3 glasses of wine or a couple of bourbons after getting home from work, during dinner, or watching tv. If you do that and then go out with friends to a bar or a party at someone's house on the weekend, you are above what this guy was drinking.

Without reading all the previous posts, get a scan and possibly an MRI to determine the state of your liver. If it's at any stage a failure those tests will show it.

The OT loves alcoholic threads.

40 beers a week. 6 per day. If he drinks them after work over 5-6 hours. His body is processing them just fine.

Yes he is drinking too much, but by no means is doing immense damage.

The mental Gymastics being done to justify 40-50 drinks a week are hilarious and sad.

It’s more people than you think

It’s probably more than 50% in post college pre family having people and I would bet the numbers are going up

Ok now you’re getting to the root of the problem

We’re expected to go to work and then go home and plug into Netflix and shut down until it’s time to go to work again. They tore down all the bowling alleys where we could have man time and now the only thing you’re allowed to do after work is watch the Obama show on Netflix

Cirrhosis is not a diagnosis made by blood work but by tissue examination in concordance with imaging.

A low platelet count is the first sign of liver damage followed by an ultra sound.

You don’t have cirrhosis. You probably had a few bouts of pancreatitis and likely have fatty liver but you don’t have cirrhosis yet

They’ll test your liver enzymes and likely get an ultrasound (which will show fatty liver).

That being said, you know you have a problem with alcohol and need to get this straight before it’s too late. Look into naloxone, AA, an addiction psychiatrist, use in moderation, or whatever works for you.

thanks that's what I meant.

I've seen what alcohol does to people and families. This dude just lost his job. This board glamorizes drinking while bitching about how expensive everything is, how their lives are shite and they don't make enough money.

Chances are your gonna be fine. First of all, don’t listen to any “labels” you put on your self or others put on you. It’s your health comes first and that’s what you’re worried about, So look at your enzyme levels, and adjust accordingly. Weight is a big thing too, and they go hard in hand. I do bloodwork twice a year just to stay ahead of things. I believe that’s one of the best things in the world you can do.
