another thing to consider.
In the documentary he got into his Bentley and fled when the police were going to arrest him for beating Nicole in 1989.
and then after he failed to report to police hq after he was charged with murder in 1993.. what does he do? Gets into a vehicle and runs from the law again.
amazing.

He’s always been very passionate about this topic
I missed this post, but yes, I absolutely am obsessed with the OJ case. I used to work for one of OJ’s big golfing buddies that was mentioned in his “suicide note”. I mentioned the Jason theory to him ignorant that he had a very personal relationship with OJ. He told me so many fricked up stories about OJ most of which I haven’t seen reported. After that I listened to everything Howard Stern said about OJ (like 60 hours worth of it) and read multiple books. I’ve watched most of the trial. Yes this is nothing to people in their 40s and beyond, but I don’t think there are many people in their early 30s/late 20s that have looked into this more than me.
I’m thoroughly convinced he ruined society at large. And then the documentary and the FX series sent me a bit into overdrive. He had such a butterfly effect more than any other American has done since. There’s no way Trump would be President had OJ killed himself in the Bronco. I don’t think Trump has ruined society in the slightest, but I don’t think there’s been a more influential American than OJ (much for the worse) in my lifetime. Maybe Trump will be larger, but I see him as a side effect.
I think you can make a very good argument with some of the tech giants, but someone would have done that anyway. No one would do what OJ did. He was a WMD on the culture as whole, and we still haven’t recovered from it. I do think he would have been convicted if Rodney King didn’t happen or he murdered his wife a few years later, but the butterfly effect was incredible. We are living in that sociopath’s world for the worse.

I've followed this case and a number of other high profile cases, JonBenet, Lacy Peterson, Kayleigh Anthony, even see where Amanda Knox is going back to Italy for the first time since she was released from prison in '11, but not to your level of this.
One extra thing I've done was to drive by the house of OJ and Nicole's condo back during the trial.
About the effect, I move it back even further to the filming of Rodney King. Remember that film was made in 91. Nobody had cell phones, etc. to record anything, other than some hand held video recorders. Sure, many people had them, but most would just record family events.
And then there was no way to go "viral" with it.
Here's a story on how the guy who recorded the Rodney King beating if this guy wasn't so persistent in getting the video out, there is a chance OJ is in prison today.

he came to LA right after his initial acquittal(to search for Nicole and Ron's killers on some NWLA golf courses,) I think his "relatives" were surprised to find out they were related to him

Because if he didn’t turn that tape into the media, then nobody cares about Rodney King and therefore no LA Riots. No LA Riots, then OJ is tried in Santa Monica which would result in OJ getting the fricking chair.

Not doubting this, but I looked for this on google and found nothing. Did Fred say this in an interview? What a story that would have been had Fred accepted the offer - I wish he had.
It wasn't CIA it was a former Mossad agent that offered.

Misremembered that part. I knew it was some government agency, so I just threw out CIA.

I thought it's fairly straightforward. However, knowing OJs popularity, I think it is plausible he would have walked without the Rodney King incident. After all, nothing happened to the Ramseys and even Casey Anthony more or less got away with it.
Further, without King, I doubt an acquittal of Simpson would have had the massive and divisive racial reactions to the verdict

Here’s the difference between OJ and those 3: first off it’s looking like the Ramseys may have been innocent. I forget the anecdotal evidence that has recently been brought to light, but most investigators now think that the Ramseys were being truthful. As for Casey Anthony, she was a dumb neglectful bimbo, but not really a despicable vengeful murderer. I think she suffocated her daughter and went too far, but I was also completely outraged by that not guilty verdict.
If you didn’t look at it through the racial or celebrity light, OJ is clearly and objectively a disgusting human being. He repeatedly beat the dog shite out of his wife. There were numerous horrifying 911 tapes. He directly threatened to murder her on numerous occasions and bragged that he would get away with it. The evidence is basically irrefutable. Plus he murdered two people, not one.
If there were no Los Angeles Riots, the big difference is the trial takes place in Santa Monica. They would have to completely rely on celebrity worship, and if they got a few suburban housewives on the jury, I don’t see how he doesn’t get convicted. Maybe some blind USC or Buffalo Bills fan... but I just don’t see it. If he’s tried in Santa Monica, I think he’s convicted.

I know that OJ’s family is from Louisiana, but I don’t remember where. Cochran was born in Shreveport.

That whole story had a huge negative effect on this country. It brought us the Kardashians. Made Cable News turn into a 24/7 sprint for content. Fractured race relations across the nation.
gave us Obama.

12. Don’t forget about the book “If I did it”: Confessions of the killer by O.J. himself.
