It's more saying that more women that were slaves passed on genes to future generations, disproportionate to their numbers, while fewer male slaves passed on their genes.

More individual women had children, fewer individual men were responsible for those children.

This happened in every race in every culture. It’s a result of the dimorphism of our human species.

Men are much more likely to die from various causes without ever having fathered children, whereas women are actually cherished and sought after for their ability to bear and raise children.

This is universal.

In the U.S., slave owners promoted segregation in addition to coercing enslaved people to have children

I’m sure there was some “encouragement” going on, but on the whole, it seems odd to talk about that particular hardship for slaves.

I’m sure slave men and women didn’t need excessive encouragement to have sex and procreate.

The horror of having your children taken from you, splitting up families, and having your kids sold as slaves to others was surely more of a hardship than the actual procreative acts.

If you served in the military after June 1992 the government already has your DNA.

You're not wrong but polygamy in a lot of societies was also a factor. It's devastating for what I guess you could call average men, because all of the women end up with a small percentage of men and have their kids.

I can't remember what ancient society it was but I remember reading that there (maybe Egypt?) that as many as 85% of men would die without ever having had kids.

Yes, that’s the point I was making. Not only that more men died young before becoming a parent than women, but just that by the end of their life, a much higher percentage of men than woman had no offspring.

This is not really disputable. It’s a fact. Anyone downvoting this is just misinformed or ignorant.

So, female slaves in the US were having a lot of children NOT sired by men of African descent,

Not necessarily. It could mean a select few males were forced to sire offspring in hopes of creating children with their physical traits.

Remember the slave-owners were essentially farmers, and they knew about siring of horses and cattle. They likely used that knowledge in the same way with regard to slaves.

Genetic data also shows that enslaved women contributed to the present-day gene pools at a higher rate, despite the fact that more than 60% of the enslaved people who were brought to the Americas were male. In the U.S., African women contributed to the gene pool about 1.5 times more than African men.

Yeah, that's a thing, going as far back as that Head of the Class episode in the late 1980s when they all had to do ancestry research as an assignment, and Robin Givens' character found out she was descended from Sally Hemmings and Thomas Jefferson.

Side note, this was before she was married to Mike Tyson.

Great news for when we hand out reparations next year. The government can use this data to determine how much we owe each descendant.

I think that's where the no duh comes from as the Americans instituted a breeding program and the Spanish and Portuguese and French and Dutch did a combination of work them to death and breed them with the natives.
