frick you!

You sound pretty shocked about it. But, how can you be so shocked when you live in S. Louisiana? I honestly expect to be flooded at some point in my life as long as I live here.

I don't mean any disrespect. But, I legitimately expect to have to replace everything I own due to a flood at some point. I feel like that is a rational thought and a cost of living here.

This is a bullshite premise that I usually hear from people not from this state. Flooding is more common in inland states

8 out of the top 10 states... none are Louisiana.

If you have that expectation, fine. At least don't be ignorant regarding your reasoning.

The 2016 flood was a 1000 year event. That amount of rain isn't likely to happen almost ANYWHERE in a 2 day period.

Again, expect what you want but at least justify it with facts.

I guess I look at NC this year and say had the weather lined up right it could have hit Louisiana. Same as Harvey in Houston and on and on. Statistically, you are right, 1/1000 is small. But, I just believe it will happen again in Louisiana in my lifetime and my home could be impacted.

We live in an area prone to hurricanes and tropical storms which bring flooding in this area.

I believe the Bluffs Golf Course flooded two years in a row. There are many small floods that don't get mentioned.

ETA: I am also not faithful that our government can improve drainage and flood infrastructure as fast as we are growing. Look at all the areas that used to be nothing and are now developments. Swamps and pastures that used to hold water.

Most if not all of the people affected around the Bluffs are required to have insurance.

I gave my excuse for not having it at the time. Call me stupid or foolish and I would agree. We naively thought that because we had only planned to be in the house for 5-7 years on top of having a small income and being in zone X, we'd be fine. Honestly, there were many positives of not having to deal with insurance. We flooded on August 13th and moved back in on November 1st. No waiting on estimates or approvals or quotes. There were some things I had to subcontract myself, but we were fortunate to know people who could help us do the majority of the work.

I can't go back and change things; I can only learn from my mistakes and take the opportunities presented to me moving forward. Restore LA is an opportunity; money available for reimbursements whether I choose to claim them or not. But by claiming them, I can finally close the chapter on this disaster for me and my family.

I have been there. I just was lucky. I think after seeing Houston, 2016, NC now, Katrina etc etc. you have to be crazy to think that in our lifetimes that cannot happen to you when you live in an area that is impacted by large rainstorms.

That is all I am saying. I hope I never flood but at this point I think it'll happen in my lifetime.

Hey rocket surgeon,

I had/have insurance. It covered about 1/3 of the cost to rebuild. I spent a great deal of my own money rebuilding. I was approved for no federal aid, despite being a lifelong taxpayer.

Stop being ignorant. You don't know what you are talking about. I hope you never have to go through something like this, despite your obviously high IQ.

Well at least you got it halfway right... you did buy insurance... you were just too dumb to buy adequate insurance. Not my fault.

Ah. The irony.

Not only are you stupid, but you're a dick, too. Fantastic.

I'm guessing you live in your parent's spare bedroom.

You don't have a clue.

If you are a pale face that had insurance you get nothing but thoughts and prayers.
