What advantages do the new ones have besides a new body style? My research has yielded very little. Both have 5.3 and 6.2 Motors. Does the 2019 have a 10 speed?

I believe it depends on the trim level for if it has a 10 speed.

Just because the engine sizes are the same doesn't mean they haven't been improved.

it does have the 10 speed but it's gotten terrible reviews. doesn't have sharp shifts in all gears and it will skip.

I have a 2014 Sierra, trust me there are better options.

I thought the new 10 speed was co-designed with ford and was the same one ford puts in their f150 that has gotten stellar reviews

Better safety features and convenience tech. If you were comparing the '16 to a '19, I think it'd be a harder decision (standard LEDs in '16 and IMO might be the best looking trucks built). But '14 to '19, I'd go '19.

Ford and Ram aren't having any more luck with stuff like engines, transmissions, or overall build quality. GM, Ford, and Ram are all changing platforms and major components often enough that all 3 have issues to address. Ford's 2.7 Ecoboost had a few major design issues and instead of fixing them, they just moved on to the 2nd gen 2.7 where they changed a ton of stuff and added a lot of new tech. None of the changes were directly targeted to fix 1st gen issues. Ram's 8-speed trans was redesigned for 2019 and as a result of those changes, the trans now has all kinds of new issues that FCA needs to fix. buying the first model year of a new truck that's based on a new platform, with a new fuel system and a 10-speed transmission that GM is using in a truck for the first time..you may experience some downside

Thank you, me too.
Her 2018 body type has more plastic components—but I’d gladly test drive either

My first reaction is ‘frick that tailgate.’

But I am trying to learn not to be an a-hole.

Is that tailgate any good?

I have the multi pro tailgate...it’s awesome. Even got the tailgate speaker installed which has a 10 hour run time with the truck off. It will be great tailgating. We’ve actually enjoyed it with the kids and playing in the yard/driveway

I work at the used branch of a Chevy dealer so have driven plenty of 2014-18 Silverado/Sierras, and so far have only driven one 2019.

The 2019 was nicer, to be sure, but not dramatically nicer. The 2014-18 bodystyle trucks are so nice and quiet and smooth to begin with that I’m not sure the new ones are worth the extra money.

I looked at them the other day and if you drop the tailgate all the way it looks like it would hit the hitch if you had one.

Why would you be dropping it down all the way if you had a hitch in?
