2012 Toyota Camry diagnosis

Fiancée came to me this evening said her Camry started making a funny sound while driving.
After fooling around with it I was not able to pinpoint where it was coming from under the hood. Then as I’m starting the ignition and turning it off over and over I noticed it got weaker and weaker.
Suddenly the electronic power steering light came on. The next time I tried to start the car it would not turn over. I jumped the car but the purring sound still remains.
I’m thinking the alternator needs to be replaced but unsure how or why it’s creating that pur. Thoughts from those with camrys?

Could be a bad cell in the battery. I’d check that first

Yeah sounds like an alternator. The whine is likely a failed/worn out bearing.
It’s an easy job if you want to tackle it yourself.

Replaced a couple on my trucks so shouldn’t be a problem to change out.
I’m gonna take it to a shop in the morning and have them confirm.

Why would only the EPS illuminate?

Look at the alternator and see if it is oily. If is it, then replace it.

Hit the alternator with a mallet and see if it quits whining

Sounds like an alternator.
Oreilly’s can test it for free same way they can the battery. They did it for me, said it was bad, I changed it, no more sounds or electronic malfunctions.
