2 questions for OT Workout Krewe

1. Are incline, and decline, bench really necessary? If I'm pressing pretty hard on the flat bench (dumbell and barbell), and doing some other exercises like flys, what exactly is incline and decline gaining me?
2. Should I be eating a high level of protein even on my rest and cardio days? I try to eat almost a gram per pound of body weight on days that I lift heavy (3 days a week). Do I need to keep that level of protein up on all other days also?
Don't worry, I generally get my fitness information from actually credible sources, but I figured I would get some interesting responses here.

Depends on what your goals are. Trying to bodybuild? Going for more bodyweight lifts?

.7 - 1 gram/lb is plenty

incline decline and regular presses: take your pick, they will all do pretty much the same thing just pick one per workout and hit it heavy.
Yes, if you want to remain anti catabolic and/or gain muscle, then you need to keep your protein level the same as on lift days

Declines are a waste of time. Do wide grip dips instead. Inclines are legit. I switch inclines from the Smith, to dumbells, to regular incline barbell. Same concept applies to flat bench too.

This guy has got it. Do declines or dips. Don't do both. Incline concentrates on your upper pecs and your front delts which are both neglected by most.

Incline is important at developing the upper chest.
Decline is pretty pointless, and you would be better off doing dips.

While you guys are here and I don't want to start a thread.
Can someone recommend a good workout routine iPhone app? Preferably free.
I'm a beast at body weight workouts (dips, push-ups, cardio, etc.) but think it's time to actually put on some muscle and would like to find me a routine I can just follow on my phone.

I use one called "strong."

1. Incline yes, decline no for me personally. Incline works the upper chest more, some people feel like they get more chest isolation out of decline and enjoy doing it but it honestly doesn't work your "lower chest" any more than flat bench does and it hurts the frick out of my shoulders
2. Yes. You can cut back on carbs on the days that you don't lift but you should always be taking in your maintenance levels of protein

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I loaded 2 or 3 random ones but didn't go through them yet to see what they were like. One Nike one and one called jefit or something like that.
I have a good bit of decent lean muscle. Not real strong though although probably above avg for my weight. 6'1" 165-168
Eta: there is an app called Strong and StrongLifts 5x5

Like others have said, yes incline is necessary. It works your shoulder flexors and isolates the clavicular part of your pecs more than flat bench. I hate doing them but they're definitely worth doing.
Decline is more of just a preference/ comfort thing. The muscle action is pretty similar to flat bench.

Damn I would love a workout board

Strong lifts is a great beginner workout plan. I would highly recommend it.
The plan is very simple, but starts low to quickly build you up. It incorporates squats and deadlifts. Therefore only do it if you are willing to do them.
