So since i have a 2017 150 I guess this means my letter may be currently in the mail?

If Ford dispatched the letters, there was a chance they too were defective and had to be recalled.

I guess with all these problems on the newer models my resale value on my 13 just went up.

So far my year has been free of the recall bug, and knock on wood no major engine problems.

Companies bringing back the pre loaders now for some reason, this will not be only a Ford thing over time.

Basically, its a huge rifle cartridge with an internal primer and explosion.

The problem with the F-Series trucks are that the insulating foam that Ford uses as a sound deadening material ignites when that cartridge explodes.

It's a design flaw that they'll have to correct on all the shoulder belts for 2,000,000 trucks.

So... the Dearborn Ford plant accidentally produced suicide F150s?

Remember...the Ford plant only assembles the parts that are made by suppliers. Guess who made these assemblies...Takata (now Joyson). Sound familiar??? The same guys who were responsible for the huge airbag recall made these pretensioners.

It's a pyrotechnic device and it's used in almost every vehicle now. Only Ford's are bursting into flames. Ford should know not to place flammable foam material around it that could ignite so easily and rapidly.

I'm sure they aren't using flammable foam material....more like combustible. Pretensioners have been used in cars for a long time (I think the first ones were in Mercedes sedans in the mid '80s), so you are probably right that this is likely an issue with the vehicle design, rather than the pretensioner. Designers should know that these are pyrotechnic devices, and their materials should be chosen accordingly. That being said, there could be some contribution from the pretsioner manufacturer as well...specially if the units aren't directing the exhaust from the charge properly.

Isn't this the same company that was leaking CO into the passenger compartment of the Explorers?
