Paul Walker was also killed when riding with a friend who was driving too fast in a Porsche. It's a really light car to be able to go that fast and there is essentially no protection for a crash.

Just curious, If you had your choice of any real car enthusiast's "supercar" that could out-handle a little ragging Boxster...you know.. really put it to shame in pure, mega-buck, world-class, handling response, just insane gripping of the track at any speed...unlimited budget...Lambo, Mclaren, Ferrari, etc...money no object...just name it... what would you pick?

First, I read it like you did the first time through BUT I think ragging could be replaced with ribbing, so just giving Boxsters shite which is ar for the course. Second, the only real issue is speed and since this is a non-S Boxster the Vmax is no more than 170mph (it isn't a 718 and since I can't decipher the year from the mangled body I just know it isn't more than 170). There are lots of cars that have higher top speeds, some that cost less than a Boxster, even the Stinger's top speed is 167 which I assume was his Kia bait.

Based on that video from the Philly station, the crash wasn't like this:

But more like this (with a lot more air):

I guess if was trying to make a point at all it wasn't the Kia bait.. a lot of cars will go pretty damn fast in a straight line. It seems that any "par for the course" shite that a Boxster does catch is mainly due to general misconception about exactly how fricken incredible a car the Porsche 718 series is. My half-arse rhetorical point would have been there isn't a production supercar at any price that will put one to shame in a sinuous, strap your-arse-in and hold on for your life, head to head comparison or a fierce, obstacle laden track handling situation.

Probably the classic examples of flying crashes was Mark Webber's and Peter Dumbreck's 1999 accidents in the Mercedes CLRs at Lemans.

Webber

Dumbreck

Youtube

Mercedes has the 3 most famous crashes at Lemans, 1955 and the two in 1999 and both caused Merc to stop racing there.

Forgot about the issues Merc had over the hump at the end of Mulsanne.

I did the same in the Nascar Racing sim 15 or so years ago. Could download the track, without chicanes, and hit that hump about 240 in a Cup car and over you went.

Yes but despite the fact I used math I wouldn’t bet on my numbers. There are far too many variables. Having paid for a lot of accident recreations over the years this one would be expensive since it is complex. You could have ten firms do it and get 11 answers.
