Are you aware that whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.

Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.

I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world. Greens are set aside in a Brandy Snifter, both in homage to rockers of old, and for small amounts of self indulgence as the championship is underway.

Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.

When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3×5 card reading, “Please use this M&M for breeding purposes.”

This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this “grant money.” I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.

There can be only one.

Sorry, I'm not privy to how drug trade works. I assumed that a convenient location on an interstate a short drive from a metropolitan area would be ideal, like a small town factory that supplies an auto plant in a larger area.

Like I said, entirely possible it's some kind of hub. But this gang, if it's a gang, is not supplying all of Memphis, and they're not doing it through this one little gas station.

ETA: It's not necessary to imagine some huge organization with tentacles all over the region, and the individuals identified so far don't strike me as being smart enough to organize something like that anyway.. Sketchy people will kill each other over $50, and local officials will sell out their integrity for ridiculously small amounts. If there's some kind of conspiracy involved, it's probably very local.

The SO maybe waiting on forensic evidence to come back from the state lab. It's really hard to say if this case is close to being solved or not because they are being quiet. People in Gulfport freaked out earlier this year when a 5 year old was murdered and a arrest wasn't made quickly. The department had to wait on evidence to come back from the state lab to make the arrest. You have to get probably cause before you can get a warrant.

I don't see this station having sales in $1,000,000/year range

I mean, I guess it's possible somebody else in that exact same area at the same time was running around with a jug of gasoline that they used to pour down this girl's throat and douse her car with.

Well damn you solved the case. That guy that bought gas at that gas station is the killer.

yeah, the internet is getting way ahead of this, and trashing a lot of people who may not deserve it.

I live in a small town, bigger than Courtland, but still a small town. I live in a nice area, but I could walk ten minutes and be in a very sketchy location. There are gas stations like this, and dubious shite probably goes on there. I'm sure if some notorious crime happened here, bloggers could find all kinds of suspicious sounding posts on social media and spin it up into a conspiracy involving nearly everyone in town. Maybe it would be true. But it probably wouldn't be.

We still don't know much about what really happened, and wild speculation doesn't do anyone much good.

Why do people have so much faith in the FBI when they dont in other parts of the government?

They put a lot of work into maintaining their public image, going back all the way to J Edgar Hoover. They're far from perfect, and they've made some major blunders over the years. That said, they do have a lot of very capable people working for them. My GF's brother is an FBI agent, and he's an impressive dude.

Hopefully they can solve this crime. That poor girl died an awful death and this town seems messed up.

Hope the FBI can straighten it out.

They're obviously not perfect, but they have both overwhelming resources and pretty damn high standards. It's hard to get into the FBI without some sort of legal, finance, or (high quality) military background.

I don't know where that figure comes from but the Ali kids dad owns multiple stores. Most likely the stores are incorporated under one business name. Those middle eastern owned stores generally do some creative accounting. I wouldn't be surprise if they're under reporting income.
