We were told in our structures course that the bridge is structurally out of code/not safe.

that means there will be lane closures pretty much every night for the next year and a half, according to DOTD.
Is taking 2 minutes to read a link really that hard?

It's more fun to piss and moan about DOTD being supposedly completely inept.

That's half right. It's not unsafe, unless you'd like to label 95% of the bridges in the country as unsafe.

"Not safe" is very far from true. Out of code could be argued because the specifications now days would require a wider structure even with the same lanes. Loading criteria has significantly changed also, but that bridge is no where near "not safe".

The capacity of the bridge far exceeds the daily demand.
Same could be said for every highway in the country. Daily demand =/= peak demand.

The bridge traffic index is now volatile, as the NYSE. News of the future construction has caused motorists to rush out in anticipation so they can get to work on time next week. This has caused massive pile-ups already, 2 days before the closure begins.

I cross that bridge 2 times a week. One time around 8:30pm on thursday night and once on Sunday afternoon. Hopefully my drive into BR on Thursday nights won't be too messed up.

Was it really not evident that it was a joke?

Thought so but wasn't sure.

Solid. I suggested this to them
