It's worked in several Asian countries. The information is widely available.

Don't know why an Academy would be considered an essential business lol

Is the virus not being spread in those locations? Or does it only spread in bars, restaurants, and non-essential businesses?

It could be but, you wouldn't shut a grocery store down or else there wouldn't be a food source. It's essential to daily living.

Going to the movies or the club is not essential. I'm not going to die because I can't go see Invisible man. The more crowds gather... the faster it spreads. If those crowds are deemed unnecessary for your daily living, you don't need to be further exposed to the virus.

I don't understand how you can be this fricking retarded.

I always assumed most people were bad with statistics and probability but the last ten days have shown that I way overestimated the general publics' ability to under basic statistical principles.

Just stop.

You don't realize how dumb your previous statement was and now you are doubling-down by claiming you actually know what you are talking about.

Then stay your happy arse at home sheep. Stop telling people who’s livelihoods are on the line that they are going to cause a catastrophe by returning to life as we know it. That’s what needs to happen as soon as possible.

How many deaths had no contributing factors?

again, it’s political theater to make people like you feel better about themselves by telling you to stay home and keep your distance from others. I understand your desire to limit the spread by closing what you deem to be non-essential. However, we are still spreading the virus by going to grocery stores, home improvement stores, sporting goods stores.

People like you and oktiger get off to this end of world type hysteria.

I don't think anyone is claiming otherwise

slowing or limiting the spread is the entire point

First, I have never once came close to saying this is the "end of the world."

Second, you still don't know why your statement is utterly stupid. You are in over your head.

Why not go all in hoss, lets shut everything down and kick this virus to the curb.

While you’re at it, go ahead and explain how Italy is statistically relevant to LA?

I am with you on the economy, but why do you keep repeating LA vs Italy has no significance? They pretty much lay out the trend so far. We shall see if it continues but so far, but realistically we are on that oath.

Demographics, dense, multigenerational urban living in Italy, Italy’s response time vs LA, healthcare resources available, federal gov response and resources.

The only thing we are comparing is an arbitrary day one and people are suggesting that LA alone will have 600+ deaths per day within the next two weeks.

Because the percentage of people dying due to starvation and lack of medicine would greatly outnumber the amount of deaths of COVID-19.

But shutting down non-essentials exponentially reduces the spread of contagious diseases because you greatly reduce the number of interactions.

If a virus transmits an average of once every 100 interactions and a population as an average of one million interactions in a day, then the virus will transmit 10,000 times a day,

But when we cut out all non-essential interactions such that the population now only has 100,000 interactions in a day, then the virus will only transmit 1,000 times which means you've slowed the rate of spread by ten.

There are a lot of variables. I don't think we follow Italy's path because we have a younger population, a better healthcare system, and we started preventive measures earlier. That doesn't mean I'm ignoring what is going on over there. That also doesn't mean that there isn't some statistical chance that we could have similar outcomes.

I agree with you. I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay attention, but we shouldn’t be making assumptions that we will follow the same path.

I'm not going to respond to someone who uses the word "hoss." You have nothing productive to contribute to the conversation.

You have clearly shown this topic is way above your head even when presented with logical facts and evidence.

Go get a hobby or go outside by yourself and stop making people stupider on here.

So we should pay attention? Meaning we should keep the same precautions in place since Louisiana is currently on the same trajectory for virus spread as Italy.

Good I agree.

Once again, these social distancing precautions aren't based off hysteria. It's to prevent LOTS of people from dying. If you don't have the foresight to see that, then I don't know what to tell you. Stay safe and have a good day

It’s not banned but it is believed at this time that grocery stores are not a place where the disease is easily transmitted. If it were, we would expect that many employees of those stores would be getting sick. One Union reporting six of members nationwide. Not saying it can’t happen because clearly it can. But it’s nothing like a large social gathering or a large office with a cube farm.

I get all of that and agree, but Louisiana also has some things working against it like obesity and % of those with asthma. Where the virus is worst at is where there is an issue with demographics, multi-generations living together and in a densely populated area.

I expect things to level off, but the facts remain we are on pace to hit 600+ deaths a day in a few weeks. I don't think it gets close to that and frankly don't really care if it does so long as or overall death rate from everything as a nation and a state stays relatively constant.

But it's a lie to act like the statistics are not trending in that direction.
