Meanwhile, in America, our teens are fighting over bathrooms and making $15/hour to flip a burger

I bet this kid doesn't get a trip to the WH or a bunch of free shite from major corporations.

Kudos young man!

being in high school now is nothing like it used to be. I'm a few years removed, but I go back frequently to help the drumline. Now instead of football players and cheerleaders being popular.. It's the "geeks" and Sanders supporter types that're at the top now

It's kind of cool but he didn't really discover anything. You can't discover something that already exsists.

All because of equality

The days of scholars are gone. What's important now is being able to sing or have a killer cross-over.....it's what the masses want and yields nothing for the betterment of mankind. As I said yesterday, people deserve what they get.

Not at the top. But "band geek" isn't really a thing anymore because it's "offensive"
I never got it when I was in school because I played sports as well.
But yeah, high schoolers are soft now a days. That's why these colleges are getting these students that want "safe spaces" or whatever the hell they're called

What excellent reporting. They didn't show us jack shite when it comes to the constellations and how to project them onto the map. Great work, guys.

furthermore, is that part of the world really so under-populated that we haven't yet happened on the "4th largest mayan city"? even in the age of manned flight and google earth being smartphone-accessible to millions of people?

how have the scientists, who have spent their lives studying this, been schooled this badly? was this kid really the first to draw the link between known constellations and mayan city layouts?

it was they only mapping they would have had. Sailors used this method for years. It is strange that they didn't think the Mayans would have employed a similar method....probably racism.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it's just a media stunt
But at the same time, I'm not familiar with the area, so I might sound ignorant. But maybe the area is inhabited by dangerous wild life

Or maybe the locals never reported it to scientist for whatever reason. It does look like it's pretty deep in the woods.
I don't wanna discredit the kid. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see

I'd think it is possible.

Calakmul remained hidden away in the jungle for about 1,000 years before being uncovered in the 30s. It'd be hard to see something like this from the air.
