More down votes than up votes about African-Americans being granted citizenship on this site.

I'm not saying my wife shouldn't be a citizen.

I'm saying she shouldn't have been one until we were married.

What?

You are saying that you have an African-American wife who should not have become a citizen until she married a white man? Are you white?

I'm trying to make sense of what you're saying here.

The OP has a bit more than just the amendment, but I'd be concerned with the comment towards the bottom of page 1...

In a few words...

Kind of.

And yes.

Geez.

She was born here?

Or, is she actually from Africa - as in born in Africa?

If she was born in the United States and you don't think that she should have been granted citizenship until she married you, a white man, that's pretty screwed up. Very screwed up.

She says she was.

You're focusing on the wrong word. That I'm white is immaterial; that I'm capable of rational thought and deductive reasoning is what matters.

Ok, Riddler. I'm out. I don't have time to pull out of you the whole story.

Women aren't capable of real citizenship.

A married woman at least has her husband to tell her when she's being an illogical shrew.

I don't think most people even know what the 19th Amendment is without googling sadly.

And they're just going to downvote me and completely miss the fact I'm joking

On this board, I laughed.

On the political board, I'd have thought you were serious.

Downvoters need to realize that the protections in the Bill of Rights would not even apply to limit state laws if it weren't for the Due Process Clause in the 14th and some liberal application of it by the Supreme Court. (The incorporation doctrine.)

Without that, the Bill of Rights limited only the federal government.

Take away the 14th and that liberal incorporation doctrine, and our state governments could have a state church, take all guns, search our homes any time, etc.
