12-year-old suspended in Colorado over toy gun seen in virtual class

Deputy Steven Paddack of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is the school resource officer at Grand Mountain. He wrote in his report that the teacher, Danielle Selke, had told the vice principal that she, "assumed it was a toy gun but was not certain."

Deputy Paddack then watched a video recording from the virtual class in which Isaiah and another unidentified student were shown.

"The video clearly shows the boys playing around and (NAME REDACTED) pointing what appears to be a black handgun at the screen and pulling the trigger," Paddack wrote.

The school district refused to show the child's parents the video. When Deputy Paddack then showed him a bodycam recording of him watching the video.

the video showed his son sitting at home on his sofa when he momentarily picks up the toy gun on the right side of where he’s sitting and moves it to his left side, not realizing that in the process his teacher and fellow students saw him move the gun across the computer screen.

“It just flashed across the school computer screen for maybe one or two seconds at the most,” said Curtis Elliott.
