But man does the Phoenix heat dig into your parked car. They don’t have much shade out there and when it’s 112 your car doesn’t know that it’s dry heat. Can barely breath when you first get in it’s literally like an oven.
That's why you look for covered parking whenever you can. Even most grocery stores here have covered parking, some in the form of large solar panels that also provide shade. Temps in your parked car can reach 140 depending on how long it is in the sun.
Also...a good quality sun visor to place in your windshield while you are parked is key as well.
Can also keep a small towel in your car to place over your steering wheel. If you have kids you can cover seat belt buckles so they don't burn their skin(this actually happens here during the summer cause it's so hot and children have more delicate skin than adults).

I always heard that Vegas was hot but it was a dry heat so it isn’t that bad. Yeah I felt like I was cooking hangin out by the pool. F that

Could you deal with less than 100 days of sunshine?
Yeah it wouldn't bother me. I spent a few summers up there in my teens.

Heat index here has been 110-117

We usually have less than 100 days of perfectly clear skies, this past year has been an exception
I have no problems at all with it. The cooler weather is heaven.

I like the seasons but would rather avoid the extreme temperatures on either end. I'd be perfectly fine with the weather in a place like Bellingham, Washington or somewhere like that. There are even places in North Carolina that average under 80 degree highs in the summer.

Plus you have both sea and mountains to play in.
We don't have temp extremes here. Similar to Bellingham or Vancouver, just about 8-10 degrees cooler in winter.

120 degrees in the desert feels better than 90 degrees with 90% humidity. Was mowing at 7:00 last night and felt like I was going to die.

I've hated the heat in the South my entire life. My wife used to have a career that was tied to the area but that's not the case any longer. I plan on getting out of it when my kid is done with school in a few years.

While the gorgeous scenery and cooler temps would be really nice....personally I know the lack of sunny days would greatly affect my overall mood. I gotta have sunshine.

I like moody weather. I also like the sunshine, so I appreciate it when we get it.
We've had three stretches of clear skies this summer, more than 16 days each so we need rain.
My favorite days are cold, snowy days though.

We are clearly wired very differently Roger cause that sounds miserable to me
I will say...our monsoon season has not been very active this year. As much as I hate the rain...I will admit I don't mind some of the positive aspects of it (that smell in the air right before it's gonna rain, sleeping and feeling all cozy in your house with the sound of rain outside your window).

or sure. My stepson lived in Vegas for 2 years and it gets much hotter there in ambient temperature daily over the summer than here in New Orleans.
However, when he visited a couple times in the summer months, he swore he'd not come back until the spring or fall and all he did was complain how he felt like he was melting when outside.
ETA: just checked Vegas weather and it is now 81 degrees with 16% humidity for a "feels like" temperature of 81 degrees. It will get up to 102 later today.
I'm in Vegas right now and let me tell you that it is insanely hot. Much more miserable than NOLA this past week.
And no, the shade doesn't particularly help.
Posted on 8/18/19 at 11:04 am to StringedInstruments
Checking in at 60 degrees right now. Our high today is 77.

I've never particularly enjoyed the dry heat much better either. 106 with low humidity is still miserable to me.

Agreed. And the opposite is true. 10 degrees with no humidity is way better than 30 degrees and humidity.
Posted on 8/18/19 at 11:06 am to StringedInstruments
100%.
Its 95-100 every day but humidity is around 10%. I can walk and check the mail or walk the dog and not come back in looking like I jumped in a swimming pool
