Your diet is the most important thing, but I'd also get in the gym and lift some weights.
ETA: if you want results that will last you need to change your lifestyle for good.. You can't just stop on your 40th birthday. Staying in shape is something you have to do year round not just a few months a year.

I think you should ask Ma'am and George about this.

push ups, body weight squats, walking, lunges, sit ups, jumping jacks, burpees, planks, supermans, wall sits, wall climbers, yoga, pilates.
No refined or processed foods, cut dairy and fats, increase leafy greens and lean meats and fish.
Fast until 12pm and don't eat after 8pm.
Drink lots of water, take a multivitamin. Moderate caffeine intake.

I thought eating something early was good to kickstart metabolism

Don't drink soda or any beverage with caloric value. Only water or unsweet tea

Just makes you hungry and you are more likely to eat more later.

Be in a caloric deficit. That's the only way to lose weight.

Adkins Diet. Guarantee you'll drop 20 pounds in less than 100 days

That would be dumb.
Don't over complicate it. Some type of resistance workout, some type of cardio, and eat healthy. Be consistent also, that's the biggest key.
Aim go 1 hour of exercise. 30 min cardio, 30min resistance workout.

Outside of the window (and 12:00 to 8:00 isn't bad - but that means you have to go to sleep at 10:00) - you should only consume protein (or perhaps fat) - nothing to stimulate insulin production.
So, it can amp up your metabolism, but it is also a way for carbs/sugars to creep in - toast, bagels, OJ, etc.
Sausage and eggs are fine - but they will add caloric content to your diet.
ETA: Better way to describe it would be "16-hour carb fast" - in other words, consume all of your carbs between noon and 8:00p.m.

I agree for losing weight, but I drink a lot of beer and have zero trouble maintaining my weight.

If OP is this size, take it slow but get on it. Now. You don't want to be carrying around that kind of weight for the rest of your life especially since it's only going to get harder to slough off. Healthy living is happy living baw.
