A big part of the reform of Christianity that happened about 500 years ago is the notion that each individual Christian can have their own personal copy of the Word of God (Bible) and can read it on their own to decide the meaning. No priest or pastor needed to tell the individual what the Word of God means, because Scripture is clear.
