I'm pretty much full blooded English. Being English is boring. I don't think people claim English heritage as much as others. Someone could be 3/4 English and 1/4 Irish and they will claim the Irish part every time.

Alistair Cooke's classic book America (1972) mentioned how most people presumed a majority of the US was of English ancestry, but "outside the South it's no more than one in four".

I'm zero part Irish and proud to be not Irish.

I don't know, but I am from German ancestry. Well, my grandfather's dad's parents came straight from Germany, I have no idea about my mom's mother's grandparents parents or my dad's grandparents parents.. Well, my mom's mother's grandparents were french maybe..

yup. I for one am proud to be majority English. I'm a mutt though. most my family claim they're German just because of their closest ancestor.

All you have to do is go back six generations and you have 64 direct ancestors.

I am fascinated that most people think they are one thing or another.

Iam also fascinated that people "leaving a legacy" with their kids don't realize that 6 generations down they will only be contributing 1/64th of the DNA to any descendants*.


*except in Alabama of course

if you teach your kids about their ancestors, and they do the same, your name WILL live on...

All mine are Cajun, French(direct), and one Spanish. NO English!! My people thought that England was the Devil.
