re: WTF did we waste money signing Brandin Cooks?

When Saints initially drafted Cooks … we traded up in the 1st rd .. which cost the Saints a total of a 1st and 3rd rd picks.
He was never a Saint long enough to give us a good return on the investment.
Now that he’s back… Father Time has dulled his abilities.
We paid the draft price and other teams got the benefits.
Sounds like the Saints.

Non impactful? That makes no sense.

Absolutely. Same with Reggie I wish he had those 1k years with us.
I’d have to go back in the time machine but I think it was someone at the same position I was mad we didn’t get but got cooks who I immediately didn’t respect.
Heavy SEC bias at the time from me I didn’t respect pac 10 numbers. Only a certain few players passed the eye test for me in the pac 10.
Hell on his highlight I can’t even use hindsight and say he didn’t come to think about it but once he became a pro he was not that player on that college tape i was very disappointed
Yeah I looked it up this was the year odell and Jarvis came out yes I was pissed

We definitely know the return. He was good for us for 3 years then traded for the pick that became Ryan Ramczyk. His pick was a good return with him then became even better from trading him.

He wasn't great but here are his numbers from last year: 54 receptions for 657 receiving yards and 8 rec TDs in 2023. 3 TDs last year with backup QB in 2024. About the same as our 1 and 2 guys the last couple years.

Can somebody give me a half arse good reason why?
No good reason at all. I hated it at the time considering it was a 2yr/$13M deal with $7.5M guaranteed, and even more so now. I highly doubt anybody was competing with us to offer him a contract anywhere near that much. Not at his age, and corresponding declining speed and production. It also just felt redundant in that he does not offer really anything else outside of what Olave & Shaheed do. And keeping in mind we have Tipton on the roster already.
On top of that we let Marques Valdez-Scantling leave and only signed 1yr/$4M with $3M guaranteed. Unless MVS just did not want to stay in NOLA, I don't see any excuse for letting him walk out the door.

He was the best WR, when he put his foot in the building.
That is where our depth was in the WR core.

We way overpaid for him when there wasn’t even a market for him. Pat Surtain made him look like the dwarf that he is this weekend when he gently reached over his shoulder to knock away a pass that was on the money. I can’t see Cooks bringing anything to the table the next 2 years.

we traded up in the 1st rd .. which cost the Saints a total of a 1st and 3rd rd picks.
Then we traded Cooks for a 1st, for a net loss of a 3rd and net gain of a 1st. We won on that.
Now what we did with that 1st...

One would think, You would try to keep the WR we got off wavers from KC last season. But noo, Big Brass Mickey Loomis, Signs Brandon Cooks.
Cooks was never really a good fit here.
