Wanted Tate Ratledge or Miles Frazier and Detroit got them both.

i don't think he will either, I'm just pointing out that it could be possibility of what they may thinking...
personally, I think he'll be our LT, with Fuaga sliding over to his more natural position at RT, and Penning has to prove his worth at G or accept being a backup at T... if he loses the job to Radunz or Clapp, so be it...

Penning will move to Guard so there is the Guard
I love how this board is just so sure of penning just moving to guard and being great.
Penning has trouble with quickness and his feet.

His feet and his brain. Everything in between is good for football.

Yeah, Penning is too tall and slow to be a guard.
Banks could be an all pro guard IMO. I think he plays there to acclimated to the NFL then moves outside. It’s not uncommon for a tackle to play guard in the NFL to start out.

Well he was a developmental tackle so doesn’t make sense to move him to guard when he’s finally “figuring out” tackle also.

He’s a top 10 pick in the draft and was a top 2 tackle. How bout he just start off at tackle and be an All Pro there. He said in his interview he doesn’t have much experience at guard. He should be a legit 1st day starter at LT, let Fuaga go to RT. Penning can backup Fuaga.

This board is sure Penning isn’t a starting tackle. Can you point out who thinks he will be great at guard?

CW, Penning tested out to elite speed, quickness, agility and explosiveness at the combine. It’s the whole reason he was a 1st rd pick
The right column is his percentile ranking measure against all the guards athletic testing for like the last 25 years

He made some improvements last year, I think he's a capable backup T.

Which is what makes him a tackle and why he should stay there

He can be a guard and still backup tackle

Gave up the most pressures in the NFL last year, almost the most penalties and almost the most sacks allowed. Something something definition of insanity
We drafted tackles in back to back years, didn’t pick up Penning’s option after giving away a huge haul to move
Up for him. The writing is on the wall

I mean I didn't say I like him starting

I’m with you
He cannot be your starting tackle if you care about developing your young QB(s)

this is my exact thinking as well... however, I'd at least give Penning the opportunity to earn the LG spot, before just relegating him to back up duty...
can he transition to G? maybe, maybe not... but we have our T's, and we gotta at least try to get some value out of Penning, before just letting him get splinters in his arse

exactly... his problem wasn't that he's not athletic enough, it's that his footwork at the T position is terrible... climbing the ladder/dropstep, etc...
