Running the ball on 3rd down to lose his third timeout was worse than any of the 4th down attempts. His MO has been going on 4th all season so its sticking to his guns to keep going, but the goal line rune on 3rd was absolute insanity.

The call was fine. You’re on the 1 yard line…take the gimme. The problem was the personnel and formation. A WR should not be the key block for a LB on a short yardage run. The RB had no chance once he got the ball.

Honestly, the offense and defense both went brain dead the entire second half. If this was the real Lions finally showing up, then Dan Campbell is nothing short of a miracle worker and the Saints should absolutely grab him if given half a chance.

10 out of 10 taking the careless gambler over the over conservative stick in the arse coach.

The Lions are in new territory. They'll be fine.

Thank God for Dennis. He would never do that.

I really did until I saw him coach yesterday when the game suddenly got too big for him.

He's better than Dennis Allen, but that's also not saying much.

I think Campbell is a Coach O type guy. He doesn't call offense or defense, but he's a master of motivation and having his players ready. We'll see if he can nail the new OC hire and sustain success, or be like Orgeron when Joe Brady left.

Can we just list the coaches that we would NOT take over DA? That won't take very long to put together.

Yup..

Campbell is the one that got away and the reason Loomis is going to make sure he gives DA as much chance to succeed as possibly before moving on.

With all the woulda, coulda, shoulda this board loves to do, the one that we should overthink is what if Payton "retired" a year earlier when Dan was still in the building.

Did he make 2 terrible decisions? Absolutely. Did he take a perpetually losing organization and turn it into a winning one that was one game away from the Super Bowl? He sure did.

I'm not kicking out a coach for 2 mistakes very early in his promising career. Payton was famous for these stupid 4th down decisions, and it looks like Campbell brought that with him. Hopefully he learns from this and matures as a coach, because he gave into nerves and greed with this one.
