Excluding the last 4-5 years being the key part there.

As for the people we let go, I'm not going to say they weren't old or going to cost us a lot of money, but Benson hasn't ever signed those key players to build a team around, has not had the best front office management and has continued to bilk the state of money by poor mouthing us but refusing to open his books while holding over our heads the threat of moveing the team.

I'm sorry, but he hasn't done the things that the Krafts, Rooneys or Irsay do. When comparing what he's done to other owners, he just falls short IMHO.

ah, fair enough didn't see that part

Well I do agree there were times where I didn't understand why we let some players walk - but still I think overall you can't complain. We can say one thing about ol' Tom, he wants to win. That I believe.

like who?

again, back this shite up.

did guys like Rickey Jackson, Roaf and Mills sign 10 year contracts as rookies?

if anything it was about scouting in those days, because free agency really didnt take form until the early 90's. Like people have mentioned, from about 87-94 or so the Saints put out quality teams. The mid 90's were a blur and around 2000 things have started to turn around somewhat.

He bought the Saints in 1985, you do the math. You are talking about 6-7 REALLY bad years under Benson.

And no, he isnt Robert Kraft, but no one has claimed he was. You sound like somone that just repeats what he hears but really doesn't know the whole story.

I don't think it's possible to name a BETTER small market NFL owner than Tom Benson.

Irsay is up there with him and has a trophy AND got a new stadium downtown so I might put him slightly above... But the thing is that the new Colts stadium could very well cost Indianapolis the Pacers. If that happens Irsay will unquestionably see his star fall a bit.

Dude are you kidding? He's bat shite crazy and it shows in his team, he still thinks its the 70's.

should have been in superbowl twice. Had it not been for the "tuck" rule.

The tuck rule game was the Div round, not the AFC CG. That said he chased off Jon Gruden, who built the Raiders into SB contenders and he promptly went and won a SB in TB. The Raiders record since the SB is atrocious. There is one constant, Al Davis.

The LIONS record the past 10 years is worse...
Al Davis should get points in the fact he wants to win and over spends on players.

Not Davis fault that Robert Gallery turned into a bust, he was considered a safe pick in the 04 draft.
The Raiders did not need a QB because of Gannon, they people considered Winslow a head case but a talent, other option was Roy Williams, but he I dont think was fast enough for Davis liking.

that's not even close to being the Raiders problem.

who said anything about Robert Gallery? That's one pick, most teams have 1 draft pick, even high ones that don't work out. Not every team has an owner that will call in a play form the owners box.

Again Lions owner?
Ran off their best player? Refused to fire their GM?
Loyal to extent it hurts the team?

Dont even over spend on players... Unless you mean guys like Dre Bly.

Al Davis has tried, but he hasn't been that successful and now I'm not quite sure what he's really doing. Benson has been pretty good, the only problem I had was Katrina. He's spent money on free agents/trades some didn't work out and some did. The Lions have to be the worst and I think Randy Lerner (owner of the Browns) could eventually be in the discussion, he bought them in 2002 so he hasn't been able to build a reputation yet

Everybody uses that picture of Rita Benson LeBlanc - yeah she looks decent in that picture.

Have you seen her lately? She's added a chin and about 20 lbs. She's a 3. She needs a trainer and a stylist and she could go back to being a 6.5 to a 7. I think she should.

Cap issues aren't the Raiders problem, pretty much every team has over spent for some one at some point. Look, the Raiders have been pitiful since they lost to Tampa in the Super Bowl and not because of Dre Bly and Robert Gallery didn't pan out. Al Davis is an active owner and his time has loooooong past.

maybe, but Davis has to up there as well. I' rank him high because he is more active. He makes personnel moves and no one wants to coach there. The Lions were stupid to hire and retain Millen for so long, they are with out a doubt horrible owners

Paul Brown is the worst owner in the league. At least the Lions TRY to spend money on players, and at least the Lions ownership and management isn't afraid to hire a coach with a strong personality...
