Why do I even listen to ESPN radio sometimes? (Brees hit related)

The only reason I do listen to it is because I love sports and wanted to hear Mike & Mike's thoughts on the game. I expected to hear about how the Saints and 49ers clashed like two playoff caliber teams and the Saints toughed one out, but no. It was all about the hit and how San Fran was robbed.

Then they asked Ron Jaworski and Tim Hasselback what they thought and they all the say the same thing..."well, it's a penalty by the rules, but it shouldn't be called."

What sense does that makes? Well, technically, he clotheslined a QB, but we should have let them play because Brees is short?

Really makes me wonder what they would say if it was their precious Brady who was on the receiving end of that hit.

I know, who cares what they think, and people are right to say that. Just feel like the Rodney Dangerfield's of the league: "No respect I tell you."

I have intentionally been avoiding national sports media today because I know that will be the only story from our game.

Yeah, I had it on for 45 minutes this morning and it was definitely their topic of the day (along with the Denver-KC game).

Typical..

I am sure last week they went off on how Payton was hit low a couple of times last week.

The thing is if you watch the play Brees gets hit just below the neck but as the hit continues and the LB follows through the arm slides up to the neck and into the facemask.

None of the retards commenting see that.

F Them all WHO DAT!!

Are you kidding me? This has to be an intentional move by espn to drum up drama about the game. Why shouldn't it be called? If you tap a QB on the helmet they'll throw a flag. What happened to Drew is WAY more harmful

When the Saints got screwed over a number of times against the Patriots, we hear nothing.

When the Saints benefit from a borderline call, OH MY GOD IT'S TERRIBLE! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!

Why don't they talk about how the receiver made contact with Corey White on his INT but he was not "down by contact?"

San Francisco/Bay Area is a very large media market.

New Orleans is a very small media market.

These two facts are the reason why media talking points are saying that the 49'ers were robbed.

We lost to the patriots because a flag was not thrown on an egregious hold, no uproar over that. Now that a flag is thrown when the rules say it should be, huge uproar. This doesn't make sense.

It makes sense once you compare the media market sizes.

However, it is quite unfair AND this sort of thing contributes to national "anti-Saints" sentiments.

Also, we need to keep in mind that Roger Goodell still hates the Saints, so, we can't expect national sports media to feel differently.

But, GREAT POINTS, kstev21.

California = big market
Louisiana = small market

That's it.

Not to mention that the 49ers have always been and are currently a large bandwagon team. People from Nowhere, Wyoming will claim they are long time 9ers fans.

Also, ESPN is just trying to cover their arse because they made Kaepernick into the second coming and he is making them look stupid. A win against New Orleans in the Dome, redeems them a little and allows to go "Kaepernick played like a champion that game, hurr durr derp"

You'll have to forgive him. His voice was a little off because some dummy throttled his throat.

Worse than Brady would sound...which shocked me.

the call was good.

whether you want to call the rule in general BS or not is where you stand on football. If you're ESPN you can sit there and spout off about player safety then call this a bad call and say "its just tough football". Brees got clothes lined and its not the initial hit its also that Brooks ended up basically grabbing Brees by the head at the end as he went down.

You go center mass on the QB now, it's the rule everyone plays by.
