I love LSU, but in the order of my allegiance, I have to say that I'm a Saints fan first and always was since I was a kid. Still, it's like 1 and 1a. I don't understand why anyone from Louisiana would hate on either of them, unless you're a UL or Tulane grad or something.

My sister's ex husband, from Baton Rouge area, hated New Orleans and the Saints. There were plenty like him too. Some sort of weird jealousy with the city and the fact that the state gave money to Benson rubbed them the wrong way. I don't see it as much now but his age group, he's in his 50s, and above it was a common thing.

My ex-wife LOATHED Benson for dangling the San Antonio carrot right after Katrina and bragging about how L.A. offered a billion dollars to move the Saints before Katrina.

But I don't think that's a Baton Rouge thing exclusively.

If by "Saints fans hate LSU," you mean people who don't think "they should trade Mark Ingram and draft Nick Brossette to replace him," then you're right.

Anyone "scared" of New Orleans is just simply "scared".

As a fan of both teams I can tell you that there's an equal number of Saints fans who hate LSU. Especially since their are a lot of Saints fans that are also Gumps and from Mississippi.

Some LSU fans think there's a hidden agenda in which the Saints refuse to draft/trade for LSU players. It's ridiculous.

I'll never understand LSU fans who don't love the Saints.

I'm a Saints fan and an LSU fan and it's absolutely true that Sean Payton doesn't want to draft LSU players. I don't think it's LSU per se, I think it's that he doesn't want to draft players who have local ties because he feels like it might be a distraction or he thinks players from Louisiana are trashy. He mentioned in an interview before that it's hard to get coaches to come here because no one wants to live in Louisiana. He brought up the schools so I'd imagine that schools and crime are an issue.

If you doubt this, consider this. In any given year there are roughly 50 LSU players in the league. There are only 32 teams. In the 12 years that Sean Payton has been here, he has only drafted 1 LSU player. He has had roughly 84 chances.
