I find your choice somewhat...mysterious.

Payne will be long gone

I like Phillips and Nnadi a lot but are they worth the 27th pick? They’d probably be better suited for round 2. I wouldn’t hate having either though, both are tree stump DTs

Payne probably will be gone, but it will be close to that spot. Prob late teens early 20s.

We don't have a 2nd Rd pick so if they like those guys, it wouldnt be much of a reach. Once you get to that spot 25-50 is pretty close unless your guy drops.

I like oline but don't pick depth in the first, we can get it in the 3rd or 4th. We have essentially three starting tackles with Peat's ability to play LT and Guards can traditionally be picked further back in the draft. I would look for a guy with guard/center versatility, that could eventually be our center of the future.

What you think about Will Clapp 3rd round ish?

Also, OL is interesting, assuming Warford plays this year, in 2019, he saves 6.4 million cap if cut/ 4.2 dead monies.

Can't have enough quality depth on our o-line and CB's with our recent history of injuries. Like Lester I hope we can snag a G/C combo guy in the draft and if possible a vet RT in FA's.

Wonder if the Saints are contemplating trading that 1 for some draft picks. Deep draft this year.

I think its a possibility for sure. Especially coming off last season when they saw how much value they were able to land. That said, it will take another team.

We always say it’s a possibility and that we hope they trade down.

We never trade down

This year I really want to though. Unless someone you thought wouldn’t be there at 37 falls.

I only say that because of where our pick is.

We get someone with a high 2 that wants to get back into the 1st it might work out.

I’d like to trade down but it might mean not having a first round pick at all. But that also means likely getting two second round picks and maybe another fourth.

Which I would be OK with if most of the impact defensive guys like Vander Esch, Evans, Davenport, Vea and Edmunds are gone.

That's what crazy mother frickers said about the Peat and Ram picks. Where the frick would we be without them?

I actually looked at this a couple of years back and we did this either once or twice in the Payton era, but late in the draft.

So yeah fair to say we should never expect a trade down, but stranger things have happened.

To be fair though, each one potentially slotted to fill a starting spot on the OL within a year of drafting.

As of now, LT and C are the only questionable spots, but neither look like they'll be given up unless traded (armstead) or not re-signed (Unger)

Unless we are traded far back into the second, or mid second with a future second (valued as a third), I don't see getting near that value for 27. It'd have to be a Foster type situation where a top talent falls for "reasons" and someone desparately wants him.

When have we not had a lineman get injured for at least a few games? Can we really count on Armstead? Unger is starting to get up there, but probably a year early to start looking for someone to groom/take a shot on.

Not saying we should draft Oline in the first, but to take it off the board would be insane. If one is there and clearly has the best grade you have to heavily consider him, even if he winds up as depth for a year or two.

Edit:
Whether or not we retain Kelemete would also greatly affect how hard we should be looking at Oline in the first. If we don't retain him we should definitely consider taking one at 27.

Yes Oline isn't sexy, and they may not play much for a year or two, but I think many have skewed expectations of first rounders anyway. If you actually look not as many start year one as you might think.
