The worst part is the coached that still think Harper can play safety. He might can play LB, but not safety, he's probably the most un-safe person on the field.

"Jenkins is about as terrible in coverage as Harper must be nice for him to not get nearly as much grief over it."

He just hasn't been doing it as long and probably not as often but he gets beat a lot too, especially for a guy that is supposed to be versatile.

Not legit.

Hell, Harper made a pro bowl with the Saints. Yes he's a liability in coverage. A lot of safetys are. I'm more concerned about our defensive line and OLBers.

To the OP and all the others railing on Harp.
If you don't put pressure at all on a pro QB rook or vet your secondary will look like chumps. Period.

That said...

Harp is just 10-20 years out of date. The league has quickly changed to much more open offences. The Saints would love to improve at the S.S. but great players just don't sprout from the ground or come cheap on the FA market. Give Spags some time money and draft picks.

As to Jenkins? You hear all this great pub on him but as someone said he has made no dynamic plays since the dallas strip. Hope that changes soon.

I was more pissed off at Corey White than I was at Roman Harper. I don't care if he went to East fricking Nowhere and was a middle round pick. He shouldn't have been put in that situation game 1 if he couldn't handle it.

Harper does have trouble in coverage. When you weigh his whole game he is better than average however. There are some truly bad safeties- in all phases of the game. Man coverage is prolly the most common weakness of strong safeties throughout the NFL. Tesucky was bad, real bad- and looked all the worse after badass Sammy Knight. Bullocks was a full fledged flop. Kaeveshit was even worse- one of those "how is he even in the NFL?" kinda bad players.

I think a lot of people don't remember what we had before Harper at S.S.

He's just an old school strong safety in a new school of football.

Mad Dog Radio morning people proclaimed RG3, "Week 1 MVP".

So frustrated, every year it seems the defense is not very good, but teams like Baltimore can have Ray Lewis come out on the field with a walker and still shut people down.

I empathize with you but you know a lot of those teams look at the Saints the same way on offense. You do know we have led the NFL in offensive yards 4 of the past 6 years and were 4th & 6th the other two? The Ravens best offensive ranking in that time is 13th and averages 18th. They're saying the same thing on the other side.

If having a choice with today's NFL, I'll take the prolific offense and try to get the D to average.

Harper is at least good at late hits, sporting his Bama jacket, and tackling.
