and for anyone who is down on Ivory, don't be. The blocking in last night's game was bush league. He had absolutely nowhere to go. Clearly some are spoiled off of success around here. So the guy had an off night, big deal. I didn't see anyone else running very well behind the 2nd and 3rd team OL.

You guys are dreaming if you think Cadet makes it to PS

ETA you have to put a guy through waivers before putting him on PS. If he has anything close to a decent preseason the next 3 games, someone will pick him up even if its a divisional rival saying FU to the Saints, someone will probably do it

Why don't we wait for a few more preseason games before we start making statements that'll make us look dumb in the future.

1. Darren Sproles
2. Pierre Thomas
3. Mark Ingram (I expect to see him get more carries)

Ivory will be released (perhaps traded) and Cadet to PS, as others have said.

if there's no room for him on the roster I hope the Saints tell him:

"there's no space cadet"

Alot of good points.
It is to early to tell but most were just speculating. Its what we do.

I think its more that Cadet brings something different. From the little I've seen he's more of a Harvin in that he does his damage when in open space. Ivory is a pounder and we have that in a young Ingram and to a lesser extent in Thomas. If Cadet continues to shine as with Ivory they would never stay on the PS. If we don't carry two FB's can we carry 5 RB's? Doesn't seem likely. If not a trade would be the best possible outcome. Nice problem to have

If Cadet can stay healthy for more than two games in a row, keep Cadet and get rid of ivory.

And BTW, EVERY team has a Cadet who tears it up against the third stringers. If we cut Cadet we'll get him back.

Remember when we had to keep Joique Bell last year?
PJ Hill the year before that?

Its amazing how many people DO NOT know this. It's the same thing every preseason.

And btw kids, conversations like this thread is what makes the preseason exciting. Enjoy it.

What some people don't realize is that the Saints carried only 3 RBs for most of the season while Ivory was on PUP. They also had 2 FBs. I don't see them carrying 2 FBs. I see them carrying the best 4 (PT, Ingram, Sproles, Ivory). They'd love to keep Cadet, but I think he'll be on someone else's roster. If he makes it through waivers, he will be on the PS. You cannot cut Ivory for Cadet at this point. Barring injury, that will be the RB group.

ETA: Thanks to the poster that linked the Ivory highlights. Thats a fun watch.

This is what i took from the preseason game:

Second Drive, Ivory had a 2 yard carry with O.

Third Drive, Ingram had a 1 yard carry with same O.

Obviously since the first of 5 preseason games is the end all be all, Ivory is obviously twice the runner Ingram is when all apples are apples.

If we kept 4 RBs and 2 FBs, what's to stop us from having 5 RBs and 1 FB with Dave Thomas dropping back there from time to time?

Cadet adds value on special teams. If he sticks with the Saints, that will be a primary reason.

We really have to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Injuries not an issue, Ivory is the obvious choice. Cadet doesn't bring anything new to the table, IMO he would only play if Sproles and PT were both hurt. Ivory could step in and share touches with Ingram...heck you could make a case for him getting more touches than Ingram (chad?).

All that said, it seems like Ivory can't fart without pulling something, so my guess is the job is his to lose, and lose it he will if two things happen:

1) Cadet continues to shine in preseason, and shows ability to run between the tackles

2) Ivory gets injured again

Either way, I would like to see us keep 4 RBs.

I predict Ingram bust off a 24 yard TD run and Ivory goes "Oh wow, who dat?"

I don't know, it just seems like a lot of RBs. I guess it depends on how the rest of the roster shakes out. If Cadet can play at a high level with the 1s, then I wouldn't mind seeing them keep him. We all know you can never have enough RBs if you plan on making a deep playoff run.

ETA: Removed redundant statement.

In this scenario, you keep three, MAYBE four active on game day if the fourth guy is a special teams contributor.

ETA: how often do you put two full backs on the field?
