Posting the most of the story, some of you may live around an ex-Saint and not know it- give'm a shout out.

- John Shinners the 2nd of the 1st round picks in the 1969 Draft along with draft pick DT Kevin Hardy (who went to the San Francisco 49ers in compensation for the Saints signing WR Dave Parks). In those days, free agency was light years away. Now 63 years old, Shinners lives in DePere, Wisconsin where he operates a network consulting business. The OG played for the Saints from 1969-71, then spent 1972 with the Baltimore Colts and finished his career from 1973-77 with the Bengals.

- Joe Scarparti, the former safety, will always be remembered as the man who held for Tom Dempsey on his NFL record 63-yard field goal against the Lions in 1970. They had multiple picks in each round with 3 selections in several rounds including rounds2, 3, 4, 11 and 17. Imagine what you could do with that many picks today. Or what your rookie salary cap would look like.

Brown played collegiately at Missouri. He spent 2 season with the Saints as a return specialist taking one punt backfor a touchdown in 1968. He was also a part time RB. The 64-year old Brown is the school superintendent of the Wellston School District in St. Louis, Missouri.

there's this intranets thing...

Hoage was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 1984 NFL Draft.[3] His NFL career spanned 13 seasons and six teams: the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Houston Oilers, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. His professional football career ended in 1996.

In 2002, Hoage and his wife, Jennifer, purchased a 26-acre (110,000 m2) vineyard in Paso Robles, California, where they now live. They were named Top New California Wine Producers in 2008 by Wine Spectator. The vineyard is operated as Terry Hoage Vineyards and produces Rhone varietal wines.[4] Hoage produces roughly 2,000 cases a year of wines such as The Hedge a Syrah. The Hedge refers to a pruning technique and the fabled Hedge of the stadium at the University of Georgia. [5] Hoage dedicated his first vintage of The Hedge to his former coach and former UGA athletic director Vince Dooley.

Wow...I remember all those names! I was only about 10 or 11 when the Saints started, but me & my dad went to all the autograph signings, bought all the game programs, went to all the games, etc., so I memorized all those names & faces. It really puts everything into perspective. I still can't get over the fact we won a SB, but I still look back at the early days of the Saints playing at Tulane stadium with much fondness...To everyone that was ever a member of the Saints, especially in the beginning...

Fields played college football for Washington State University. He was selected in the first round (13th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played six years in New Orleans, leading or coming close to the team lead in tackles. Fields returned to play in the 2004 NFL season, and made the NFC team at the 2005 Pro Bowl. However, he learned before the start of the 2005 season that his Hodgkin's had returned, and so he turned down a new contract offer from Carolina. At this time, his jersey number (# 58) has been assigned to Thomas Davis. It is unknown if he will return next season or at all. On NFL Total Access, Fields has mentioned that he fully hopes to return for at least a year in the future.

It's so funny how I free-associate names with certain things... In my mind this would be from Toi Cook's bio, not Quinn Early's.

How bout Jubilee Dunbar? In the cany business? Actually saw him referenced in the news recently. Some rapper from Nawlins uses Jubilee in tribute to him.

in the news today-

Joel Hilgenberg, former Hawkeye and New Orleans Saints football player, said he's been to all seven Aiming for a Cure hunting and sporting clay events. Hilgenberg was one of the celebrities who joined 80 hunters and 80 volunteers participating in Saturday's event at Highland Hideaway Hunting south of Riverside.

"It's easy to do because it's such a good cause," he said. "It makes me really feel fortunate to help in any way I can."

"Hunters are always ready to pitch in and help out with a good cause," said Hilgenberg, of Iowa City.

there's this intranets thang...

The Virginia medical examiner's office has concluded its investigation into the death of Kevin Mitchell, ruling that the former Washington Redskins linebacker died from heart disease and natural causes, a representative of the office said. Mitchell, 36, died in his sleep in April, shocking his friends and former teammates.

Mitchell played four years with the Redskins, and he and his family continued to live in Ashburn after his playing career ended in 2003.

The recent findings concur with the initial results from Mitchell's preliminary autopsy, which attributed the cause of death to a heart attack. Mitchell's wife, Denise, is expecting the couple's third child in January.

and

Friends of Mitchell's say they have heard that sleep apnea and hypertension are two possible reasons for the enlarged heart and massive heart attack he suffered in his sleep Sunday night/Monday morning. The death of the 36-year old LB has deeply saddened many at Redskins Park and he will not be forgotten.

The Harrisburg native has a fund in his honor set up for deserving kids in his home town.
