I think IR is mandatory 8 weeks. It was around mid October iirc, so theoretically he could be back for the Steelers.

Everyone assumes that, but the possibility for a late season return was there when his surgery was announced, and new rules for IR would allow him to return if healthy. I hadn't heard anything different since then.

Yeah, I haven’t heard anything but speculation based upon the original idea that he “could” come back in 8 weeks. I haven’t seen anything concrete to backup claims that he’s coming back soon.

Big body receiver for end zone plays. More of a Jimmy Graham type than a stretch the field type.

Earlier in the year Payton stated he’d be eligible for the first Panthers game. I haven’t heard about him practicing though. Normally he’d need 2 weeks of practice before returning.
