Yes it takes more than just the head coach, but helps to have the right people in the building. They had a ton of picks and spent them well.

It was easy to think they would have been the Lions and screwed it up with the draft capital they had.

It’s a bottom feeder job in a bottom feeder city. Why did Payton bail only to return to a franchise with juice as he famously said? Why did he covertly try to hit the eject button in 2019 to the Dolphins?

If it’s so attractive why did we hire Dennis Allen? You’re going to be surprised at the poor candidates next time Loomis has to search.

You're getting some shite but you aren't wrong. We will not be able to get the perceived top guys available. The situation is so fricking bad, why would they take it?

We will have to either take a chance on a young guy that wants to make his name, or a retread that no one else wants.

Please not a defensive guy for the love of god

Man reading through this thread a lot of people just don't get what SFP is saying.

Yes, there are only 32 of the jobs...but 6-7 of them are available every single year in the NFL.

The Saints job will be ranked close to last. So the guys that are considered "the best" of the candidates will choose other jobs. Some may even defer to another year rather than take the Saints job.

It will be considered a very bad job to take. They will be able to hire a HC.

They will just have to take a chance on a guy not as highly valued.

Source: The New Orleans Saints head coaching vacancy is seen as “one of the most undesirable coaching opportunities we’ve seen in the past decade” according to multiple league personnel I’ve spoken with

The combination of a poor ownership group, lack of a good quarterback, most of the good roster talent being over 30 years old & the teams current cap situation all play key factors here

One contact said “anybody who willingly takes on this job must be desperate for that head coach title in this league”

Another contact told me “New Orleans already isn’t that desirable of a destination, factor in the mess that this franchise is in.. I’d tell everyone & anyone to stay far away”

Karen is proud of herself. Posts a click bait article already pulled.

Lol, prepare to melt later.

This coach search has been kind to the Saints with Coen/Carrol/Schottenheimer filling spots.

Depends if we bottom out and are in position to draft a qb worth a frick, ultimately that’s all that matters in this league. The Texans almost instantly went from one of the more dire looking situations to a young, exciting team

This. Plus, Washington is another example.

Why would I melt when I've been proven so right and you've been proven so wrong?

You defended signing Carr and trying to win now instead of a quick rebuild where we'd already be on the road to being competitive.

Have you forgotten?

Saints haven't hired a coach, so I guess you could take that as no one any good wants them, but it seems premature. I know message boards are all about look-at-me these days, but it's annoying as hell. There's some (like me) that come here to discuss the saints, not themselves.

I mean at this point, the thread was proven correct. None of the top guys want this job.

We're at like tier C of candidates. McCarthy (a retread) or Moore (the OC candidate retread). Even Brady turned us down to remain an OC.

Does this automatically mean the coach will ultimately fail? No. I mean it's theoretically possible Shottenheimer is good in DAL (although very unlikely). However, the quality guys went elsewhere and then the secondary openings got filled by the B-tier.

People laugh at like Carroll, but he'd be perfect in our Culley role. He's a leader and when we're ready to actually start the rebuild, we could get a new guy.

Really? Outside of Vrabel and Johnson, who we all know were never coming here anyway and were pretty much locked in with the Pats and Bears to begin with, there weren’t any “top guys” You could throw Glenn in there for sure but those were the top 3 and two of them were never really considering going anywhere other than where they went.

I mean look at who some of these fricking teams interviewed. Everyone interviewed some random names out there and almost every team had almost an entirely different list of candidates. I’m not saying you’re wrong in that the Saints aren’t desirable. They aren’t. But you acting like Moore isn’t a good candidate is laughable. He’s widely respected around the league

Payton wasn't close to the Saints first choice. They had to take a chance because most didn't want the job, and he's the best HC in team history.

It can work out.

But you (and I) were also right.

Its the last job available for a reason.

He’s 73 fricking years old. He could die in his Raiders office chair tomorrow, SFP. I know you’ve been anti organization and anti Loomis for a while and I don’t blame you but get a fricking grip

Liam Coen is about as hot of a coordinator name that we've seen the past 5+ years not named Ben Johnson.

He's been interviewing for HC jobs for years and was never close to being hired, then goes to PHI, doesn't really do anything special there, and now he's a top candidate?

Look, he may work out, as these things are like picking QBs, but he's not some top candidate. He's a known guy who has interviewed a million times and never was really considered anywhere.
