His hand injury is complex enough that at his age it may be 50-50 whether he gains enough mobility and strength in the thumb. That is according to an ortho surgeon friend musing on what has been reported.

They said the same thing 10+ years ago about his shoulder and now he has a ring and is a first ballot HOF. You are betting against the wrong person

You don't know what you are talking about. This isn't an ACL or Achilles in an explosive position.

After most reconstructions like this the ligament is stronger.
