but it seems some on here are dying to declare the dude a bust.

we had an urgent need at LT. We gave up a ton to acquire the 2nd 1st round pick. My only point is that if he doesnt' play substantially in year 1, its just a short term bust impact. Not that his long term development is in jeopardy. That was the context of my comment. BUT BUT bUT... we do want to see IMPROVEMENTS in his technique and pass protection game pretty quickly... it shouldn't take 12 months to see BETTER out there.

no. thats not at all what you are doing friend. you fly into every Penning thread to bash the shite out of him because you didnt like the pick, and your obsession with being "right" is clouding your judgement.

That LAST thing you are doing is giving him the benefit of the doubt. We KNEW he would be raw, We KNEW he would need development. None of that should surprise you. After his first pre-season game, he looked better than I expected considering who he was blocking and the arse QB he was blocking for.

Look around you.... No one in the business is concerned about this player except a handful of rando's on this board. He'll be OK.... YOU'LL be OK.

this is hyperbole and just ya'lls defensiveness as the reaction to very straight forward things.

I'm not sure what benefit of doubts there is to give. He's incredible in run blocking and atrocious in pass blocking. His pass blocking is too risky to jeopardize our franchise starting QB to play him from what he's shown so far.

Found the problem. He was drafted as a bit of a developmental player like most elite FCS guys are. Hurst gives us the flexibility to work him in, and by all accounts, he's picking things up quickly. He's been in pads for 2 weeks and has had 1 preseason game. Can we wait a little while longer before spamming the board with negativity?

My only point bringing him up in the thread was how Book made his job nearly impossible the other night with his constant retreating to the top of the pocket while Penning is trying to shuck a 250# 4.7 edge rusher. This really isnt debatable. Book is trash.

if he isn't starting and asked to do the things he's terrible at... how much time are we giving him? If pass protection issues aren't fixed by next TC, i'm going to start going brutal on the kid. He's super talented in the run game, damn right dominating. But his weaknesses are very very glaring at this time. I was hoping for a smidge better improvement.

you are already shifting your expectations from Penning. Back in May, your words...

Penning will start, and I think he'll be fine.

Now you're pretending to know that we all knew that he wasn't expected to do anything this year.

I'm not pretending anything and I said no such thing. Your post is desperate and doesn't make sense.

Yes, of course I think he will start - even if not by the opener - at some point in year one he will. Almost no one thinks otherwise. You are alone in your hate, bro.
