yeah I get this. Was just curious if from a football standpoint this actually does anything. I feel like the extra cap space is more important than Vilma.

This + I'm just rooting for Vilma on a personal level. The man just got railroaded and came back swinging.

I think it would be somewhat uplifting for players. Dont know that it actually matters on the field. But locker room type leaders mean a lot to younger guys. Plus im sure he's their actual friend which gives them a vested interest.

Goodell is bad for pro football.

If the game keeps getting watered down under his watch, it's going to eventually be outlawed altogether.

It may be. I heard we can transfer free cap space to next year.

Vilma would most likely start the year on the PUP anyway, and he restructured his deal so his cap hit isn't very big anyway.

@rjonesTP: @chrisk228k Yes. I don't see why she wouldn't rule on Vilma now. She might not rule on dismissal of injunction cases though

Burbank is a federal arbitrator that was assigned to settle the issue and he ruled in favor of the NFL and the appeal of his decision is apparently August 30th.

quote:

An arbitrator ruled Monday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to discipline New Orleans Saints players for their role in a bounty system.

The NFL Players Association challenged Goodell's power to impose penalties for what the league says was a three-year bounty program that targeted specific players. Stephen Burbank, a University of Pennsylvania law professor, took only five days to determine that Goodell has the power to punish the players under the collective bargaining agreement reached last August to end the lockout.

Oh ok thanks. So basically if she lets it go to that, Vilmas case is over? Sounds like that's another one of Goodells lap dogs

So what's the point of this hearing if the Berrigan thinks she can't rule on the case????? And has to wait on the Burbank appeal anyway.

I just don't get it.

The judge (although she thinks the process has been unfair) doesn't want to step in prematurely before all appeals have been exhausted.

ETA: When courts rule they set precedents for future rulings, so they have to be careful.
