Based on these numbers...we've created 111.835 mil in cap space so far. We started off at about -105 mil.

We've added very small contracts like DE Noah Spence, FS JT Gray, RB Ty Montgomery, RB Dwayne Washington, & OT/OG James Hurst. They don't affect the cap very much since only the top 51 cap #'s are counted, but FS Marcus Williams definitely does with a cap # of 10.612 mil.

These are the contracts that are the most probable for restructures, extensions, or trade bait. Possibly cut.

QB Taysom Hill - 16.159 mil
RB Latavius Murray - 4.187 mil
WR Mike Thomas - 18.8 mil
WR Emmanuel Sanders - 10.0 mil or 10.5 mil
LT Terron Armstead - 16.225 mil
LG Andrus Peat - 11.6 mil
RT Ryan Ramczyk - 11.064 mil
DT Malcom Brown - 6.443 mil
LB Kwon Alexander - 13.2 mil
CB Marshon Lattimore - 10.244 mil
CB Janoris Jenkins - 14.2 mil
CB Patrick Robinson - 3.85 mil

I would say SS Malcolm Jenkins, but I hope we don't touch his contract. His age makes it a bad idea to add more money to future years imo.

Same with Andrus Peat. I'd rather not add any money to his future years. I wouldn't restructure him, you can't cut him, but I would trade him if some team wanted him. I still can't believe Peat's cap # is 11.6 mil.

Taysom and Peat really needs to restructure.

Any chance we re-sign Hurst? He was really good this year.

I hope we do. I'd even give more than vet league minimum if that's what it takes to get him. Not a lot more, but I'd be cool with a cap # of like 2.0 mil. Maybe a tad bit more...like 2.1 mil or 2.2 mil. He was money for us last year, & he bailed us out on a few occasions. Even when he doesn't start, we use him as our 6th O-Lineman. He's a legit backup at LT & RT...he even started at LG 1 game I think.

I'd rather not, but we might be forced to do so. CSP & Loomis have some tough decisions to make with only 9 days left to get under the salary cap.

Saints can get under the cap pretty quickly

Re sign Ram and Lattimore (Probably about a 6 mil savings on each)

Cut or extend Alexander (prefer cut but he is injured- so they have to wait)(13 mil if cut and probably 8+ mil if extended)

Restructure Hill and Armstead (can save about 7-10 mil on each)

Convert some of Thomas cap hit to a bonus (save about 5 mil)

Trade or cut Brown (saves another 5 mil)

All these moves get the Saints below the cap by 5-10 mil. Would be enough to tender Hendrickson with a 1st round pick.

I think some of the moves have not happened because if Armstead, Hill, Thomas, or Lattimore are involved in a trade for Russell Wilson then you will not do anything with their contract.

I think they try to keep him. Cam was talking about how much he improved the defense once they traded for him (which is very true). But he’s never gonna give you a full season.

Isn't Hendrickson an UFA? If so, he's not eligible for a tender.

Pretty sure we can't cut him yet.

Correct, he cannot be tendered. And if they restructure MT13, they could save almost $9 million. Surprised PRob has not been released yet.

3rd round comp pick incoming from Trey, MT restructure or trade bait...kill 2 birds with 1 stone (salary / picks)

here is the next few years with MT as it stands now

PRob was surprisingly solid as backup outside CB last year.

3.85 mil isn't bad, but I'd like to get that number down just a little...like 2.5 mil. I'd take him for that all day.

He should be ok with that considering he never plays unless 1 of the starters at outside CB can't play. He didn't have many snaps last year, but played well when called upon.

Found an article very similar to this thread

LINK Saints Salary Cap Slasher Tracker

The Saints have done a good job managing their salary cap situation so far, but still have a lot of work to do ahead of March 17th.

It's not a matter of if, but when the Saints get under the NFL's salary cap number. New Orleans has done a ton of work thus far, to the despise of many who have talked at length about how detrimental the team's treatment of their contracts and cap management has put them into this position. All you have heard for months is that they were going to be nearly $100 million over, and that spelled the end for the Saints. In all fairness, no one saw COVID-19 coming, and that clearly put a big damper in things. Still, they are finding a way, and still have a long way to go.

We've put together a tracker that will keep a tally of all of the moves the Saints have made and update it as they come with the relevant information. Of course, it goes without saying that the craziest part in this equation is that the league hasn't finalized the number, and we're essentially in crunch time.

Current Cap Number: $243,070,098 (per NFLPA)
What's this mean? This is a report generated and updated daily, which takes a snapshot of how many players a team has under contract, each team's salary cap carryover, team cap, and total cap room. It's important to note that the Saints carried over $4.1 million in space from last season. This should explain why you might see a total team cap number and then the cap room varying from the NFLPA figure.

Total Top 51: $231,916,673
Why are we in Top 51? From the start of the new league year, which is March 17, to the first week of the regular season, only the top 51 salaries and highest valued contracts.

Estimated Space: -$43,926,169
How is this calculated? The final salary cap number has yet to be determined, but the lowest we will see in 2021 is $180 million. This would be the baseline figure to use until we get the final number.

Timeline: How the Saints have Slashed Away Money
3/6: Team restructured contracts of Cam Jordan and Demario Davis, freeing up $13 million.
3/4: Team released veteran punter Thomas Morstead, saving $2.5 million.
3/4: Team restructured contract of kicker Wil Lutz to create an additional $1.74 million.
3/3: Team released Josh Hill and Jared Cook, as the Hill move created an additional $2.5 million.
2/12: Team released veteran Nick Easton, saving $6 million.
2/6: Drew Brees lowers salary to league minimum, saving $24 million.

GMoney, would you be willing to put the current cap situation in your title so we can get this thread stickied? I believe we're around $12MM over at the moment after cutting Malcolm Brown (as if you weren't already aware)

The 7 main contracts that we might see some changes to are:

QB Taysom Hill
RB Latavius Murray
LT Terron Armstead
RT Ryan Ramczyk
CB Marshon Lattimore
CB Patrick Robinson
FS Marcus Williams

I would include Tre'Quan Smith, but I doubt he's going anywhere since we released Emmanuel Sanders.

And Marcus Williams. He pretty much needs a long term deal for our cap (same as Lattimore and Ramczyk). The tag is just a placeholder.
