Losing Rankins imo isn’t going to hurt the run D as much as people are making it seem. In fact he often rotated out on likely run downs. This isn’t to say he hasn’t been great this year and it’s a huge loss, but I don’t think we see a big drop off at all.

I mean it's foolish to say he won't be missed. He was good in the run game. But, I do think the pass rush will be affected more than the run game defense. I think a rotation of Onyemata and Stallworth opposite Davidson will work.

We're about to return to the 3 DE rush set with cam Jordan moving inside IMHO

Rankins is a very good pass rusher but Onyemata’s strength is playing the run. He also showed up against Dallas on pressuring the QB. Keeping him fresh will be difficult though. They’ll probably dress out Hendrickson and have he and Okafor rotate in at DT on some passing downs, along with jordan. The times Stallworth and Davison are in together and caught in passing situations we will just have to blitz more

He'll be missed. I hope you're right though, and if you are I promise it won't end up being an unpopular opinion

It was actually Davenport or Okafor lining up inside last week after Rankins went down. Davenport actually had a few good pressures from the DT spot and forced a few bad throws.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn we stunted the least out of all teams in the league.

I can't recall even a handful of times we did. I imagine it's because Allen likes to maintain gap integrity on runs.

On the flipside, it also makes it a lot harder to get pressure with 4 when you rarely stunt as the Oline knows where everyone is coming from. I'm surprised we did as well as we have (49 sacks which I think was tied for 5th). But that's a credit to Jordan and Rankins because they can draw and beat double teams.

I honestly think some of that is overrated. Teams know what everyone is doing by this time of year. I’m sure other teams that have faced Dallas knew all this, it’s just a matter of executing it. There’s nothing to hide at this point in the season

You must not have read the article about it.

It was extremely specific and they said they knew EXACTLY what they were going to do on over 90% of plays based on where player x lined up vs. player y and how they were shading.

It wasn't some yeah we have an idea of what they're going to do.

That's why the Rams were having 10 yard runs with nobody being touched until they were in the secondary. The Gurley 40 yard TD he had a HUGE fricking hole with only the safety to beat (not even a corner).

That's why Goff was only pressured ONCE all game (yet still played like shite).

This was full blown hand tipping, not guesswork.

And without a bye week, they likely don't even spot this. It took hours of tape study to pick up on it.

I agree it will hurt but Davison's strength is the run. He can't really pass rush at all. Onyemata has been a beast this year so I'm not worried about either of those guys.

I think in order for us to fully shut down the run, though, Stallworth has to play well. He's going to be playing a lot more snaps to give Davison and Onyemata some rest.
