re: Underhill said defense likely at 8

You’re mentioning his medicals in other threads? Wanting a rb and not a safety in the top 8 is also wild. Downs is regarded by some as the best prospect in the draft. Value wise? I agree it’s not the best idea. Listening to some rumor that some scout said about him leading up the draft when those reports have been negated is just silly.

It’s still negative information on the player
Remember Big Ram and his dead money that’s still on our books because he retired early?

I also hear negative reports on a ton of other players every year that turn out to be all pros and Hall of famers. Rams career was incredible regardless of his knee. The dead money came from how we handled the cap not how long Rams career lasted.

All the medical rumors aside I just can’t get excited about picking a safety at 8.
I’d dare to say I’m not alone on this. J Love is an exception for me here bc he’s the type of back that doesn’t come around every year. A Special talent and that’s why he 1000% goes in the top 10. Possibly top 5. Occasionally players come along that make you want to buck the norm. He’s that player for me.

That’s fair. Scouts say the same about Downs. For me i don’t believe in taking safeties or RBs that high. Regardless of the situation or player. Every year there’s a generational talent. Last year it was Jeanty. Every year and every position they throw around the word generational. I like Love a lot. But screaming you don’t take safeties that high while saying take a rb that high is just hypocrisy. But I’m also hypocrite as i believe you take love if the draft falls a certain way
Posted on 3/4/26 at 11:19 am to RawDog7984
I don’t think Downs is a Emmanwori or Hamilton level prospect. Love is top of the charts

Yeah. I understand what you’re saying. I just really want an exciting first round pick that amps up the anticipation for the season. That’s why personally I hope we go offense unless something crazy happens and Bailey or styles falls in our lap. Bailey is my favorite player in the draft.

But we paid him a lot of money to not play for a couple of years. It definitely screwed us over for awhile

I hear ya. The same thing Prox is saying about Ram having a short career, you’re looking at a short career in Love in comparison to most. Which I’m fine with. My main issue is will Love be that good behind the offensive line we have? I doubt it. Is that a reason not to draft him? Ehhh. Drafting a rb with no oline, an aging defense, and a major hole at wr is just not smart. But, if the board falls a certain way and a pass rusher isn’t available or styles, then pull the trigger.

Allgeier is a solid rb2 but seems like you’ll have immediate buyers remorse if you sign him to be more than that
I like etienne but he stays dinged up and will cost a good bit
I get some are hesitant about early RB but given our roster I don’t hate it. You can get by with an RBBC build but having a true rb1 would really vault the offense up a notch imo
I wouldn’t hate Tate either, 2nd rd WR success rate is spotty at best.
If you view shough as your guy I think you need to start getting him more weapons now on offense.

It was just the dead money we pushed and pushed due to restructuring. I would ask do you regret drafting Ram? Me personally? No. He was an elite RT for 7 or so years. The main point of the convo was listening to rumors coming from other teams right now. Nobody is telling the truth at this time of the year
Posted on 3/4/26 at 11:28 am to RawDog7984
Right. Our 2025 oline will be our 2026 oline?
We will have 3 guys on the oline in 2026 who didn't play last year. It's the teams #1 concern.

Yeah that’s def a BIG question mark. Would have to get very creative.. I’m hoping we can address the OL in free agency rather than entertaining the idea of someone like Etienne. I’d much rather some experienced depth guys there vs hoping a rookie pans out. We def need to shoot our shot with a couple picks next month for the o line. Really hoping for some luck to go our way there.

No it wasn’t, we kept him on the roster for an extra year to spread some of it out before he retired actually

Been saying this for weeks. We have 5 defensive starting positions that need to be filled. This should be a "no shite Sherlock" moment for anyone not completely up Loves arse.

Problem with Godchaux is he was a healthy scratch toward the end of the year. Kind of weird

4 of those guys could decide to retire today and the other is a FA. None of that changes a single thing and the point still stands. We still need to replace 5 starters.
1 of the replacements you listed is already a starter and the other is a S replacing a CB who is on a 1 year deal and also could retire.
Not to mention that you don't actually WANT those 5 guys to be our starters. You hope that we upgrade instead of relying on 38 year olds that are a year from retirement.

Blackmon is playing the honey badger role which alontae was playing.

well NEED to replace and wanting to replace are slightly different shades of color. We COULD get by 1 more year with the same interior defensive rotation even if not overly ideal.
