I know right? it was a divisional opponent at that, and only one of the Falcons or Saints gets the home playoff game for winning the division. Considering this regular season game put us a game behind in the division standings, i'd say it was a pretty important regular season game.

And Dilfer's lack of talent has nothing to do with his ability to analyze football. He has a superbowl ring and gets paid for his opinion. And he's right about Hartley. Say what you want about caretaker quarterbacks, but when a franchise quarterback can't be afforded, they need someone smart enough to make the right decisions without making mistakes. I'd say the talentless guy in that situation likely knows alot about football.

the guy had a lengthy NFL career say what you want. He's more qualified than any random guy on a message board so the people who say "OMG he sucked in the NFL, what does he know?" are morons

saban was a shitty db in at kent state, what does he know right? Sean Payton sucked in the NFL, he's probably ignorant too.

I too, am quite peeved that Hartley missed that kick. But at the same time, I believe this will be a great lesson for the team, and Hartley himself.

I believe Hartley will become a great Saints kicker for years to come.

Kiss my arse. Look at his stats through 3 years. His absolute raping of Jamarcus given that his stats were very similar through 3 years.

He had 1 tds and 6 ints in his first year.
He had 4 tds and 18 ints in his second year.
He had 12 tds and 19 ints in his third year.

My beef with him is that given the fact he was shitty his first 3 season, the arse raping he gave Jamarcus was seriously hypocritical.

He had ZERO to do with the super bowl win. You could have won at QB with that defense.

He comes of as bitter to me.

Oh, he had just about nothing to do with the Super Bowl win which is why he was cut the offseaon after the win. And he was nothing more than a part time starter the rest of his career.

Does he have the experience to be a good analyst? Yes, but he trashes people whenever I see him and he comes off like a bitter pill.

Yeah but he was right about Jamarcus, correct?

While their stats may be comparable in their first few seasons, check out a different perspective

Dilfer was drafted by the Buccaneers, who at the time mirrored todays Oakland Raiders. He took his hits, continued to LEARN FROM HIS MISTAKES, and was voted to the pro bowl in his third season.

Russell's third season involved his demotion to 3rd string, with a reputation of laziness and lack of work ethic. Followed by his release from the team and allegations of illegal drug use.

I don't think i'm in the minority when I say Russell's skills are beyond those that Dilfer ever dreamed he could have had. But Dilfer never criticized Russell's skill set, no one did. His attacks were likely those of his laziness and failure to even add a drop into his bucket of potential.

Dilfer has earned the credibility in expressing his opinion about any quarterback in the league and he gets paid to do so. I'm not sure you can take your P&G goggles off long enough to have an unbiased approach to the situation however

he did miss a pretty easy kick at the end of the Bucs game

I think that was 1 of 2 that he missed for the ENTIRE YEAR

i thought it was hilarious. he wasn't making fun of hartley directly so much as he was making fun of all kickers

ETA: and he was trying to rip Colin for talking all high and mighty about the Falcons when the Saints girlie man kicker missed an easy kick

he's an analyst, its his fricking job to do that. What do his playing days have to do with it? Does someone need to be a Hall of Famer for you to respect their opinion?

Exactly. And it's not like Dilfer ever claimed to be the prototype. Having knowledge of the game and being able to apply it as an athlete are totally different. I was never great at football, but it doesn't mean I don't have a pretty good idea of why I failed.

On the other hand, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, and Warren Sapp were all hall of fame players and sound like complete retards when discussing football.
